Strange (flooding?)problem

I Just refurbished the old monbloc for the super rocket. reassembled without the washer on the fuel inlet!! To start the bike tickle as usual and it starts easily the problem is after a minute it goes onto one cylinder pulling the plugs the left cylinder is soaked with fuel the right is OK. the bike is sitting on its sidestand so to me it looks like flooding and fuel flooding down the inlet tract.
There is no flooding from the tickler when the engine is running or stopped????

Try it on the centre stand and see if that cures the issue. If not, close inspection of plug lead and cap on LHS required before looking at mag slip ring, points equally open etc etc.

The tickler acts as a breather for the float bowl and can get blocked (in NZ by small pesky bees), this can cause symptoms like you have, fuel cannot properly fill the float bowl (because the air it displaces can’t get out via the breather), instead the fuel goes through main/needle jet (which tends to disguise the problem as the bike may start, and run for a short while).

Might be that, might not be!

Could also be the spacer stopping the float hitting the side cover is missing.

Edit: the quickest way to diagnose float problems on monoblocs is to remove the float side cover and replace it with cling film and elastic band so u can see it fill etc

Well, I have confirmed that the problem is with the carb. Without touching anything else I put the concentric that I have been running for years, Started first kick and runs cleanly!! The monobloc seems fine, as I said I rebuilt it using correct jets slide etc etc. The floatbowl wouldn't seal so I put on an extended Bowl. (could this be a factor??) I will set it up on the bench and see if I can trace the problem. Incidentally I had gone through all the ignition, points , slip ring, Plugs, caps and Mag pickups when the problem started. definitely a puzzle.

AJ Engineering tap the bend out of float bowl covers with a little jig he has made and then skim the inner face flat in the lathe.
