I just bought myself a good heavy rubber mallet at Aldi's, (as you do when buying groceries). I didn't pick up the till receipt but from memory the mallet cost about 3 quid. I've needed one of these jobbies forever.

Aldi currently have a selection of unusual tools, such as an engineers hammer, tin snips and long handled end-cutters

That is my wife's phone. It happened to be on the table. I thought giving the mallet scale might be useful.

Some years back I bought a set of German metric ratchet spanners from from Lidl, 8mm up to 17mm in the common sizes. They were on offer at ten quid, and although not keen on ratchet spanners (DiYers tools, usually) these have the finest most precise  ratchet action I've ever seen. Beautifully made....shame I've got no use for metric tools anymore..

You really do need a ratchet to have fine graduations.
