When we moved over here we sold up and packed all our worldly goods into a 40' sea container to be shipped to Adelaide. This provided us with an ideal opportunity to have a good clear out. I sold and disposed of stuff I still regret no longer having around including a '72 Notrun Commando in bits but basically complete that went for 1500 GBP's.  *eek*

A number of people did quite well out of this but somewhat ironically I found myself donating (dumping) a considerable amount of garden tools, benches, bikes, machinery, nut and bolt collections etc. including an old Southbend Lathe I had been meaning to rebuild for 20 years, to my Dad and much of this now resides in his shed...One day, hopefully many years hence, I will find myself having to go through all this stuff again no doubt!

I live on a farm in the boonies in Canada nothing around here to buy replacement stuff its 2 or 3 hrs to the city depending where I want to go so I fix anything I can ....our well pressure started dropping last year was quoted between 4 and 7 thousand dollars to replace the pump 60 feet down on a 1 steel pipe ...got the neighbor to bring his tractor over put a 20 foot chainfall on the bucket and pulled the pump up 15 feet at a time turned out the pump was fine the galvanized pipe had a hole in it and that was the cause of my pressure drop replaced everything with new pump and poly plastic hose total cost $1000.00 and 4 hrs work ...... the problem with being handy is you suddenly gain new friends wanting help with their projects .

Have we got a power cut? The lady next door is in a tizz. No power. I have a look at the distribution board, her main circuit breaker has tripped, along with the ring main breaker.  On with the main breaker switch, on come the lights. Ring main breaker won't reset, so I unplug and isolate cooker, hob, microwave etc. Then I can reset the ring main and by a process of elimination it turns out to be the cheap Chinese Kettle is the culprit.

Ain't it good when you can fix the basics without resorting to the so called tradesmen. Lent her a kettle, she thinks moonshine comes out of my ****.

Do you mean she "thinks" it or has "observed" it?

Thanks for the accolade GB. That was an easy one. Without my help they would be still sitting in the dark! As for moonshine, it's the sort you should never drink....

I have 2 rcd circuits blown in the flat - cooker and power. All sockets switched off, plugs out. Got to climb into the attic to see if anything has eaten the wiring otherwise it's call in a sparky I fear. Oh yes, and visitors arriving tomorrow to stay in the flat for a week. And in the middle of haymaking. No pressure...

Small world Butch are you an Essex man too then? We (me and Mrs Nails) grew up in the Doddinghurst /Hook End/ Blackmore locality roughly 5 miles north of Brentwood.  Brentwood was voted the most boring town in England I believe at one stage! Then became infamous through the "TOWIE" TV series, though luckily we missed all this being over here.  I went to school in Chipping Ongar and worked for Ford Motor Co. in numerous different locations around Essex for many years.
