Disaster in Brittany
« on: 07.07. 2021 20:28 »
If anyone on here has ever spent holiday time with Roger Nicholls on bike breaks in Brittany, France  . . .
Just to say he needs whatever support can be mustered from the 2-wheeled community following a truly catastrophic shed fire that has taken out a dozen of his machines, including some tasty stuff - Trident, Bonnie, MAC Velo, several classic Beemer twins  . . . 40 years worth of effort up in smoke, or turned into molten aluminium.
His dogs alerted him in the small hours a few days back, but nothing to be done, intense fires being what they be.
FB users can see what I'm talking about here, on his site. Luckily, no human casualties, apart from the mental side obvs.
Insofar as they are able, folk here in France  are rallying round, and so are a lot of classic UK riders who have benefitted from his legendary hospitality and good humour - some Beesa people among them.
Really devastating - and I know there are those here who know the feeling all too well.

G'day groily.
I know the feeling all too well. Looking at the pics brought back sad memories.
Do you know of a "Go Fund Me" type of thing set up for them?
Cheers

Hi Musky,
There's a link to something on their FB page, set up by a mate in the UK (unbeknown to Rog initially). Shall have a look later on today if I get a chance . .
Two theories on this fire - fire brigade suggested 'mouse in the wiring' of the barn, or the inevitabl electrical fault on a bike. Nothing was switched on at the mains apart from a refrigerator for beers, so no battery maintainers in the equation. Rog suspects a relay on one of his Beemers, having heard apparently of similar, and having had the odd problem with one of them in the past. Maybe the insurance people will have other thoughts.
What it tells me, in whatever case, is that the 2 bikes I have which don't have a battery isolator switch are getting one soonest.
Cheers, Bill

G'day Bill.
Thanks mate, found it and put in a few beer tokens.
I also know the warm feeling of getting help from friends I've never met. The Forum helped me get started and put a smile on my dial.
Cheers
