A bit of sketchy weather, to say the least.
« on: 22.06. 2021 04:34 »
I'm very happy today that the tornado that came through the Chicago suburbs (here, Naperville) last night missed us, but it wasn't by much. An F3 tornado touched down three miles southeast of us after the automated warnings and TV meteorologists told us to take cover. Others were not as lucky, as many houses were completely destroyed among the 150 (or so) damaged. That rotating system had to pass right over our house to get to where it touched down. They're saying winds to 140 MPH. The kind that throw cars around the neighborhood like toys. Pretty sure most members in the U.S. will have heard the news of this, but wondering how far that news might have spread. My sister In Costa Rica knew of it right away.

Anyway, thanks to luck, family is safe and BSA's are in tact.

Hadn't seen that over here Richard, no. But very glad you're OK.
When we lived in Ohio, a small one ripped through a sports field literally 100 yards from the back of our house and demolished a brick-built dug-out for the baseball coaches etc and distributed the individual bricks, like hard rain, all round the place. So I've seen the aftermath of the extreme power in these things, even little ones. We hid in the basement, as you do - Very Scary.

I'd heard nothing about that here, but that's not surprising as I rarely watch he news.
Glad you're ok and hope that no one was hurt.

I did read about that tornado Richard. I'm glad you were not affected by it. Were there fatalities?

Ah! Glad you asked. No fatalities, thankfully.  I believe 11 were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

In the 28 years we've lived here, this is the third time warned to the basement. This California boy now knows they ain't all false alarms.

Guys,

Thanks for your kind thoughts on this. Other than wondering if it would be us, we didn't really suffer anything. My daughter reported to us that she recognized a woman being interviewed on TV who was directly affected. Not exactly a close acquaintance. Turned out to be the wardrobe mistress from the local performing arts school she went to 12 years ago when she was 14. BFD.

Hadn't heard of that Richard - glad you and yours (and your BSAs) were spared.
a small one came through parts of Auckland last week which is unusual for us - one guy killed and some houses smashed up.
More of them about these days - mother nature must be getting angry with us

Scotland, famed for wet weather, is suffering a drought. When did that last happen? Was out watering trees last night.
