Please help….! Front fork damper tube assembly on my BSA WDB40, as per 1966-67 A50, A65, i.e. pre-shuttle. It is removed from the slider.......
I need to dismantle the assembly to check why the internal valve part, located at the bottom of the 5/16 rod, is sticking only on the bottom of the tube before it travels up to the top. It is as if it is catching on a burr near the 4 equidistant spaced oil holes on the tube. I have a fine de-burring tool which I used to scrape any internal burr from those drilled holes, it made no difference. I need also to change the scalloped bronze bush as it looks a bit worn. The travel up the tube after the catching/sticking bottom of the tube is fine as expected as it should only be a smooth bore.
It is a simple assembly, but, the problem I have is removing the top bush/guide for the rod. Circlip removed, spring clip removed which secures this rod guide and it will not slide out. Its passage out (about ½ inch) is clean, no rust. Tried tapping out using a brass rod through the bottom 5/16 threaded hole that fixes the assembly to the fork slider, then PlusGas, then heating with blow torch, then tapping the brass drift rod a bit harder than I dare – what the hell? Why won’t it come out? Please, any suggestions? More heat?
