A7 shooting star 66mm plus 40 thou pistons
« on: 27.05. 2021 22:50 »
Hi there
Anyone know where in the UK I can get two pistons.
I need 66mm plus 40 thou and sets of rings as well.
My current broken piston is
67-1447 1mm oversize which is 40 thou.
I bought a longstroke piston (62mm) by mistake its NOS and £20 plus p and p.
Cheers
Steve

Give IMD a ring, I'm sure they do A7 pistons in that size. I'm in the process of rebuilding my A10 with IMDs +040 they look really good quality and Adrian is a very helpful and pleasant bloke to deal with.

Thanks I will try them. For some reason A7 shooting star pistons seem a lot less common than A10 (or long stroke A7 which are everywhere).
I used to own a Rocket Gold Star replica when I were a youth and building up this A7 is the nearest I will get to that, 40 years on !

IMD are not showing any A7 stuff just A10 piston kits on their website but I will contact them just in case.

When I visited them up in Tarporley I'm sure Adrian said that he'd had A7s made.
I'll see if I can find the leaflet I picked up with the product list.

I see JP make pistons for stationery engines. The models one has on one's desk, presumably?

66+40, thats a std bore size for an a75/t160, so you should have plenty of options

Thanks for that info. Useful to know the bore is the same but there are other issues like compression ratio, clearance for valves, weight of pistons , dia of gudgeon pin etc etc. But I will check if any are suitable for an A7 SS.

66+40

I have missed something if it's std bore where does the +40 come in
