Flame out when stopping
« on: 07.05. 2021 20:44 »
My bike is easy to start and it runs beautifully;  however, when I pull up for a junction, if I'm not careful with the throttle, the engine stops. Can you suggest what needs to be adjusted to cure this? Usually I am still rolling so I drop the clutch and she fires right up again. Muchos gracias.

Additional: the bike runs a bit rich.

Your idle may be too slow, too rich or too weak.

As she's a good restarter I'll assume a rich idle mixture. I'll have a little tweak. Cheers m'dear.

GB   Worth a check and experiment with the float/fuel level. Too high possibly choking itself, too low, fuel starvation both as the bike comes to a halt and the fuel sloshes around in the float chamber. Also the thickness and correct position of sealing washers on 276 carbs can be problematic and if the bike has behaved like this for a long time, could be an answer.

It's a fairly recent symptom. I too wondered about fuel float height. Yes, I do still have the original 276 carb fitted. I put a new throttle slide and needle in during the resto. I can't think at the moment how to modify the fuel float height. To begin I'm going to raise the throttle stop to see how that works. I don't like a fast tick over though.

GB. On a 276 Carb with its remote float chamber the relative float level to needle jet height can be adjusted by the thickness of washers between the float bowl banjo and the jet block retaining nut. More washers, lower level.

As a start, check float for a leak if these  flame out symptoms are becoming more usual.

I seem to have 'cured' my flame-out problem by increasing the tick over speed 👍
