'Like any artisan product, real ale requires specific handling and storing to ensure when the beer is served at between 11-13°C it’s of the highest quality and as the brewer intended. Well-kept real ale served at the right temperature should be lively, naturally carbonated and flavourful – representing the pinnacle of brewing art. '

I love real english bitter , sunny day , a table outside hopefully overlooking a cricket ground and a crispy  cheese roll ,bloody heaven , I'm a simlw soul thats my idea of heaven. oh please no "craft beers" with hints of citrus and pomegranate or any other crap. barley water and yeast and let it go will do for me .
Black sheep as an aside re your experience of the dark stuff  my brothers father in law was a mobile cellar man from Whitbreads and whilst enjoying a pint of excellent Robinsons best with my Brother the landlord asked if he could suggest a cure for his guiness  . He then proceed to pull a pint of guiness ,plonked it on the counter a s flat a a fluke . Easy says the cellar man your coolers much to cold  and sure enough some minutes later a beautiful head appeared ,trouble was the landlord told him he wasn't using a cooler just hi cellar which was extremley deep!

roy c funny you should mention old peoples home , the pub which was built in the early seventies on the grangewood estate which has loads of 3 story , 4 story flats etc has an old peoples home built next door to it. the land is going to be used for old folks bungalows , the only downside is they now call this estate that was built on a massive piece of farmers land STRANGEWOOD because the council have filled it with looneys from inner cities , there has been drug related murders and the surrounding burglary rate is off the scale. you often see those zombies wobbling about or stationary with scary eyes gurning away on the streets *eek* *eek*

I was concerned after our last lockdown, if I may have lost my taste for real English bitter as for me it was an acquired taste. Started off on Tolly Cobbold Cobnut (a sort of sweet brown ale, that is no longer available), at that time I thought ‘bitter’ was just that bitter and horrible. By my mid 20’s I was a convert. Anyway, only managed 3 pints al summer long and I had not lost the taste then, lets hope I have not when we are eventually allowed out again.

I have been to the UK and Germany several times and really enjoyed the cellar temp beer better than I enjoy our ice cold beers! There is something about the taste that is brought to the front when the freezing temperature sensation is removed. Maybe that's why the freeze our crappy/weak brews? Sitting in a European beer garden in the shade of a beautiful tree drinking one of your fine brews is almost heaven!
My Grandpa was German and he kept his in the cupboard in the kitchen! A little too warm that...........

So RichardL what's the truth of your current avatar? Is it really a UK pub?
PS., A full size picture would make it easier for me to see details

Maybe he bored with America lockdown ( if there is one). Berg's has mentioned the loss of his local (with good reason) on a few occasions. I reckon GB and i should get over there, bike's permitting, take a photo of our bikes in front of it and use that as our Avatar?

I used to work for Guinness. Guinness should be stored and served at 58 F. The cognoscenti shuddered at the concept of cool Guinness. Quite ruins it.

Guinness is in the “nitrokeg” family of cr_p beers, one of the earliest offenders,  I have been known to drink the boddingtons version.

Not the first time i been called up for sitting at the back and staring out the window.
Sorry to hear that Berger, there'e lots falling by the way! They reckon Covid has slowed pub closure down with the rent delays etc but there's a lot waiting to fail. Really hard for staff and regulars. Not sure if the one round the corner from me will re-open!

KiwiGf, not the only  culprit but needed if you want that white head on it . Even the bottled original stuff is pasturised  now where as you used to be able to use the yeast in the bottles to brew stout.
