Camps cancelled due to Covid-19
« on: 15.08. 2020 10:19 »
I'd love to go to one of the camps but the few times I've been out there is always someone or someone's child making a laughing stock of social distancing.

I don't get the rule about children not having to wear a mask. In the UK initially we were told that a mask is worn to protect other people, (by trapping droplets) more than ourselves. That message seems to have been dropped. I guess the thinking was that people would be more interested in wearing a mask if they thought they were protecting themselves. Children can be carriers, like anyone else. Kids don't have to wear a mask so their folks think they are not at risk and allow them to ignore social distancing.

Quick Big Jim rant. The mask thing is mostly political and acts as a reminder that there is a v v nasty virus about. The WHO refused to initially recommend mask use due to the science which is well published and at best neutral on benefits. The best mask effect is as a huge visible reminder to be careful. Right, that's me back to the garage, have a rally next weekend and always lots of things to tend to on A10. Time to burn out my third dvr2, it's becoming an expensive habit!

yep like so much of this stuff it just dont add up, seemed to me if a mask stopped droplets coming out they must also stop them coming in, I bought five washable N95 masks way back at the start (Feb/Mar and I'm not clairvoyant just got  eyes in my head)

There are masks, and there are masks.
I see a lot of folk in supermarkets with bandanas wrapped over their chins and bottom lips, unsure of the purpose of this other than to gain them entry to said supermarkets.
Unfortunately people think that if they wear a face covering they no longer need to distance themselves, or wash their hands.
I have a supply of the best rated masks from work, sadly no one told me how to use them until my wife saw me put one on and told me it was inside out. Duh!

I've seen a medical person on TV say a scarf or similar will do the job.

There are masks, and there are masks.

Correct, look for an N number this is the filtration level  N95 filters out 95% or level 3 for surgical masks (also 95%).
I think there's some doubt about the vents (for exhaled breath) in my masks they also have filters in them but I'm not sure about the level

If the idea is to catch exhaled droplets, (that's the message I heard), anything with a fine holed texture will do.

Not the point I was told by a medical person Bill. You sneeze or cough, the person with no mask is ok. They do similar, it's potentially on your clothes, hair, face.

You go home and wash your hands and take your mask off thinking you're safe when you aren't, the virus is possibly straight back on your hands as soon as you touch anything that had droplets sprayed on it.

Who knows, but it's a point worth consideration?

yep I get that bit but still think a mask is going to stop me breathing in his or her droplets also I reckon persuading the populace to wear a mask to protect themselves would give mask wearing a bigger take up.

I reckon the psychology of getting peoples self-interest involved was needed to encourage mask wearing.

it's an experiment, the illuminati or whoever it is are doing experiments on face coverings to see if they can recognise people by the eyes from cameras in places where they go. *eek*

Neil, I think you'll find most of the wildest ideas (called 'conspiracy theories' by those using ridicule to divert attention from the truth) are actually true. I'm a research freak, and it actually worries me that so many people haven't a clue what's going on. As Josef Goebbels once said: the bigger the lie the easier it is to fool the people.
