More Allen Millyard goodness

There was a chap around 40yrs ago who created a vee twin velocette that inspired me to start making vee twins.  Classic Motorcycle (in the days of Philip Tooth) were keen to do an article on mine, but I wasn't prepared to pay them for the priviledge. Seem to recall the bike's creator was welsh. The bike was called the 'viper' and I seem to recall it was 60*. Anyone recall? Would never never able to find the article now!

Just been laying on my garage floor for 3 hours contemplating options for my Z1 Super Six exhaust system. It’s looking like the best option, for the most factory look and retaining both stands is going to be a 6 into 4 with standard headers and standard pipes, I will make a pair of short custom 3 into 2 collectors made from 304 stainless steel 🙂

That first cut feeling 😳
Today I begin the transformation of my new Z1 super four exhausts into a super six system, I’ve made a couple of 3 into 2 collectors in 304 Stainless to marry up the six headers with the four original silencers.

After a day of cutting and trimming, the 6 header pipes fit into my 6 into 4 collections on my Z1 Super Six and it’s all bolted up tight, next up is some careful tack welding upside down under the bike then remove the whole system  to complete the welds.

Nice afternoon to get my Kawasaki Z1 Super Six out in the sun, here is the left and right sides , looks quite stock so far 😎

Yesterday I finished off welding the exhsusts and programmed the electronic rev counter to pick up a signal from the Boyer Bransden Electronics ignition system, then filled the carbs with petrol and started the engine for the first time with its new pipes and could resist a quick spin. I pulls like a train from idle and sounds amazing. Once I’ve got the tank and pannels back from painting and pending and restriction on travel, I will make a first ride video 🙂

Truth is he must be a bit of a lightweight. If he can't even brush a bit of Smoothright over the tank then i for one am a bit disappointed.

Agreed. I'd have just blown it over with some matt black myself. Means you don't have to be too precious about keeping it clean then either.

Flash back to 2002, This is my Kawasaki V12 engine during assembly with the heads off. This was a complicated build and caused a few moments where I had almost impossible problems to overcome, but I persevered and the V12 ran great. It can be seen running on my youtube channel and on recent repeats of the TV program Big Big Bikes on Quest. It’s now on display in the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum along side my Kawasaki Z1600 V8, first Kawasaki H1 850 five cylinder and first Honda SS100 V Twin.

Here is a start up video of my Z1 super six in my garden to give an idea of how it sounds with its six into four exhaust system. The engine is running great with no oil leaks. I’m waiting for the tank and panels to return from my friend Neil who is painting them in Z1B candy blue, then I can complete the build.
