But the larger hub and brake fit between the fork legs without further mods?

In general I think the answer is yes but hopefully others will know more, I bought a wheel (with axle) that had been fitted to a s/a gold star, so I pretty much knew it would fit my B31 rigid, the brake plate is actually probably A65, the wheel early plunger gold star. It did not need centralising in the forks via spoke adjustment. If you buy brake plates and wheels (drums) from different sources you might get a mismatch in brake shoe width.

In NZ suitable wheels and 8” brakes for upgrading go for quite a few of $$$  *pull hair out*

Thanks for the info and pics Kiwi, not going to get hunting for a hub  just yet but if one turns up I might get a wheel made up around it, it's got to be better than the 7" joke on at the moment.

Rex here are the piccies it needs new linings .

and tyre, inner tube, rim tape, rim, spokes, bearings, paint  *work*

A good example of how much each “barn find” wheel usually costs to restore! (and that’s just the parts)

Nevertheless it would sell quickly in NZ

I’ve not seen a brake with an “internal plate/ring” like that before, what is the brake from? Is the ring to make the cams work better  *doubt* ?
