No more riding till springtime

Today, I notice that the roads here have been salted for the first time this winter. That means Emily will not be coming out to play for a few months. Shame, I was hoping to have a final spin this year.

Salted roads and precious BSA's do not mix well. Tuck her up for the winter so you'll both be ready for next Spring!

Salted roads ????, we have to travel a while to find any of these    yes pluses and minuses I supose

1\2 hour riding followed immediately by 1\2 day washing\rinsing\cleaning\oiling etc and it should go well :O)

Here in Norway, we hate the salt for eating up our cars, and love it for making it possible to drive most places.

I have to admit that my beastie is so covered with oil film and i try not to clean it (i do not find this hard) that i feel it is suitably protected. I also keep finding an excuse to get her out between the worst of the rain so the road sludge has built up as an extra layer. I feel if she gets a clean that's tantamount to saying no more fun this year and am not ready for that. Off to the autojumble at Shepton Mallet tomorrow so more oil will be spread about the west country. My oil pressure topic will be updated ( your observation GB has been noted) when the cold in my hands forces me onto a bike with heated grips. Am only daylight riding due to charging issues, every run has been a test run since April.

Yeh, OK, but what about the motorbike?

I like the occasional ride in winter. My bikes are cleaned and covered in ACF50. Our local gritting team post online when they are going out. I was going for a little pootle yesterday as it had rained since the last gritting and was a beautiful day. I popped out on an errand in the van and on the way home pass a gritting lorry and got the usual pebble dash, so no ride for me

Don't get this. If you're riding on ice I'd be more worried about repairing crash damage than road salt - or are the councils now gritting wet roads just in case they freeze at some future date?

The ground hadn't frozen when the salt was applied in the evening but it had by the morning.

It's since the council stopped putting salt on roads BEFORE the temp drops to freezing that the rise in potholes came about, water seeps into small cracks in the road then freezes opening up the cracks further resulting in the road breaking up, sometimes you have to spend to save

 Ice? Well it's a nice comfortable 30 something° here  so've tooken the Moto to a fave watering hole to check they still had  cold and scrub in a new front tyre and gave a small handful in a right turn when the rear stepped out, so went back to see why and found signs of diesel spillage on the radius that I must've crossed-  been there before... no fun but this was easier to see than fresh stuff- I  just didn't... too busy looking up the road and round the bend...

We've had several swathes of salt layered across the roads here in the last few weeks. Purely from a perspective of avoiding an icy surface I would suggest that has been a complete waste of their time and my money. And as noted - leaves you with a horrible corrosive residue, and a horribly slick road surface long after any water has evaporated away from the untreated pavements.

You can only wait until there has been a good downpour to wash it all away. Or buy a bike that you don't have to care about, maybe a Honda?

 Well as it happened ....we had T'storms forecast, and on my return trip (~40km), after I dallied for a bit to buy a new phone, the sky was kinda dark and the weather radar suddenly showed a hectic bad storm cell- coming from right where I was going......lucky that because I went through it quicker than if it had've been going in the  same direction I was......sun came out as I pulled up at the youngsters....
 Was very nice to cool down some but was a bit stingy on the face- my Teee shirt needed a wash anyway
