Tanglefoot for me - Badgers brewery in the West Country.  *beer*

Jim
Chilled?
Garage temperature in the Winter - in the fridge in the Summer. A bit lively when pouring if it is not cold.

Jim

Yep I sample a pint of tanglefoot, pic attached :-)

When we weren't on the Guinness back in the day, I'd taken a great liking to 'Old Speckled Hen' - a south England bitter. Absolutely delicious drop.
(But I'm an Aussie lager lover too). Now, I learned a while back that this beer was the favourite of some of the lads at the MG factory over in Abingdon, who, at 'special' lunchtimes would all pile into an old battered MG to 'op darn the pub. The beer they drank became known after the old MG. It was so battered and bogged with body repairs, it was known as 'The Old Speckled 'un'. So while we were thinking of old speckled hens, in fact, we should have been thinking old speckled bodywork!

(Yes I'm sure some ol' codger thought this apocryphal tale up to have a giggle at the (then) kids who would rock up on brand new Super Rockets etc.

I wish I could remember the pub name... it was at Locks Bottom (I kid you not!) near Bromley Kent.

Ahhh, Oohh I'm thirsty!

The Old Speckled Hen is a bit hard to find Down Under Jools. I believed the MG car story too, but have just seen the date on the tap 1711  *eek* which is a bit before MG's!

Breweries like Carlton running on market research pretending to be trendy eh. Pretentious toss.... Oooh I nearly said a naughty word.

Jools, you are right about the name, but by all accounts the brew first appeared in 1979 to cash in on the 50th anniversary of MG car production in Abingdon, which was also home to the Morland brewery. The speckled car was a customer order in the 1920's or the paint flecked and oversprayed factory runabout, depending on which urban myth appeals.

Morland became part of Greene King, the Abingdon brewery was closed, and now Speckled Hen is brewed at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. So thanks to the recent Chinese takeover, who knows what's coming.

Black Horse, Whyte Lion, British Queen, ring any bells for Locks Bottom?

Another local bottom in Bromley is Pratts Bottom, or Pratt's according to local Graffitti.  Just don't get GB onto somewhat similar rude village names in Worcestershire.

Wetherspoons...Comedian Rich Hall does a song that says it all, but to be fair their offering is great value, as the average price is creeping closer to the £4 mark in this part of Suffolk.

Any news of the fridge....Has the space time (can't spell the next word) been restored?

Swarfy.

It’s the law in uk that beer has to be served in pint (20 oz) or half pint glasses, so $5.50 au is a lot more cost than wetherspoons.

Lager is cheaper for pubs to supply, as it does not go off in the barrel.

Aha Swarfy, it was the Queen! The British Queen, right over the road from my mum's flat. The bell rung! (And sometimes the Bells ran too).
But here's the thing... I feel sure I was drinking Old Speckled in the late 60's, before I emigrated to Oz. But if what you say is right I must have encountered it on one of my rare trips back.

Had a few pints in our local weatherspoons on Saturday , Ruddles , cooking bitter but it was spot on and at £1.69 a pint ,happy days ! Funniest named place/with pub  was in Kent, a  place called gotterspluck or futtsbuttock  on the Sandwich rd , we were there the year the Brooks fireworks factory went up , bloody great fire !

The traditional pubs are pricing themselves out of the market, if it carries on only wetherspoons pubs will be left!

G'day Swarfy.
Yes the beer is cold in the shed again. Made a small bench for the replacement bar fridge to sit on and the motor is now under it.
In Victoria and I'm not sure about Qeensland beer is served in middies (10 oz). The glass is that small I get cramp trying to hold one.
On a different track (Aussie Disaster). About 20 miles south Highway #1 has been cut by fire for a few days. Lots of little towns can't get out. I know a few people out there with lots of old bikes. Hope their safe.
Cheers

KiwiGF you've been to DUCKY! wow what an experience it's only about 4 miles from my abode *beer*

I stayed just one night in my mates place in brimington, rode up from Dorset on my borrowed R6, my mate said there was a little gathering at a pub not far away we could go to for lunch, to commemorate a bloke who had passed and was a local at the pub and had a tendency to wear loud shirts, so I bought a shirt in chesterfield on the way there, as we had to change buses in chesterfield to get to Duckmanton .

As it happens it was a huge event, hundreds maybe over a thousand people attending, all in loud shirts (even Daves dog). An epic day, finishing with a takeaway curry at midnight.

I was a bit fuzzy the next day, on the ride over to my nephew’s in Macclesfield, must have been the couple of lagers.

No kiddies/ middies up here or in Vicco- they called pots or sometimes half- pints, which in theory I can have two of (In an hour  *beer* *beer*) and still be legal to ride/ drive which suits me but I can't have any more than one schooner 15oz (1oz less than a US Pint = 1Lb).....(I think a schooner in crow county SA is different.... *conf2*
