Aussie disaster

G'day fellas.
Only two days to the start of Summer and already having high 20's to mid 30's. Got home from work and went straight to the shed for a beer or ten. Water on floor and warm beer *eek*. Beer fridge buggered. Bugga, now have to buy a bag of ice on way home for the esky and go upstairs to get my 1st coldy.

Low hanging fruit, but, there is the tired old chestnut jokes about Lucas Electrics and why some are cursed with warm beer. 

However speaking of Fruit, Beer and 1st world problems.  I often host others from outside the area and a German friend who visits often, I can appear generous as I often tell them I will take them out for a Steak dinner and beers.  Theres a Greek Mafia strip club (I understand some call them peelers) that has their own farm and offer Steak dinners and other food for insanely low prices.  PLUS 64 Beers on tap.  Now Wusel, is picky about his beers and one from the wrong region or recipe is likely to be heaped with scorn and curses.

However faced with 64 taps of unknown beer. (Eine Bieren Bitte) Its a problem.  So we eventually settle on a Hefeweizen and the bar tender, Assuming typical US tastes goes to garnish it with a Lemon slice as thats a popular thing in certain circles (I dont like it).
She asked while going to annoit the freshly poured mug assuming we wanted it.  BIG MISTAKE.  Normally reserved and passive a look of anger and fear crossed his face and he bellowed in a loud German accent very  forcefully "There is NO fruit in beer!!!!"   *eek*

Everyone froze.  Crisis averted though.   For an amusing tale, read this, YES,, we have a vegan strip club next to the Greek steak house strip club and they are feuding.

Some folks from Scotland visited, and along came my friends son on the trip at the tender age of 22.  There was a dancer that strongly resembled Jennifer Anniston, the movie actress and the young lad was smitten.  She asked him if he wanted a private-lap dance.  I leaned in and mimicking their Scottish accent, suggested he pay for it.  "Aye Laddie, can ye really deny your sons happiness?"

G'day fellas.
I avoided a national disaster (how did you know Aussies like beer?). I remembered the spare but very small (only holds 48 stubbies) bar fridge in the spare room.  *smile*
The problem was the old one had a Yamahahaha 1000cc 4 cyl motor on top! Adrenalin for the want of a cold one helped me lift it off unassisted. Problem is now I have to get down on a knee to get a beer! Now working on a stand for it but that's OK as I have now cold beer to help.

ps: anyone need a motor for a mobility scooter?  *bash*

And the usual unprintable reply alludes to those who errr...don't quite get the concept of "cellar temperature". ;)
I wonder if the French serve a fine red through an industrial chiller unit?

Musky, before you junk it, try power direct to the compressor. If it runs, then the thermostat has failed. Easy fix, new stat or a plug in timeswitch.   Runs but does not cool, the thing needs regassing. Compressor  getting very hot, no sound of working, then the unit has seized, and you have a new vermin proof storage locker.

GB yr waiting yr time on this Southern Hemisphere lot, they absolutely do not understand beer.

Horses for courses I think GB. I got a real taste for the thin p155y ice cold stuff in the Northern Territory on hols out there last year. It’s the way it hits the back of the throat.

I get the need for a coldy when the weather is scorching but real beer should not be consumed like that.

Reminds me of a comment about champagne I read from the late Alan Cohren . ( Apologises in advance to our American cousins )He commented the  The demi sec was for the French ,the Brut for the English and anything for the Americans  , as they drink it so bloody cold they can't taste it anyway ! *bash*

Beer should be served at between 2 and 4 degrees C. I can taste the difference between different makes. After a hard day sanding floors I need a few to cool me down and wash the dust off.
The two weeks I was on the IOM I drank cider as the taste and temp of most beers put me off my food! Most pubs over there were built before refrigeration was invented and the owners too cheap to install it.
Now ducking for cover.

You see GB! (I rest my case).

I’ve spent 20 years in NZ fruitlessly trying to educate the locals on proper beer, even buying them a selection of semi real ale unfortunately only easily in bottles) for after Friday work drinks, despite this being the ideal situation of free beer, they still turned their noses up.

I've been making beer from kits over the summer. Beer kits have improved a lot since I last tried making my own beer 20 years ago. I was advised to use Sucrose rather than normal sugar. The results have been very satisfactory. If you drink at home, why not make some of your own, KiwiGF
