Today I attended our VMCC branch big annual meeting and ride-out, around the Coventry area. There were some amazingly interesting motorbikes, ranging from a V-twin 1910 Rex, that has a starting handle that is inserted into the rear hub, (where the clutch and gearbox reside). There were a couple of Sunbeams; one was so superbly refinished with nickel pipes and hand controls it looked quite surgical. There was a Rudge Special, a lovely Triumph Speed Twin of 1949 vintage, with instruments on the top of the tank.
The VMCC allows bikes and three-wheelers up to 1992 so there were two Aero Morgan's with air-cooled vee-twin engines and a few more modern machines. There must have been about thirty machines on show.
When we got back to the starting field there was judging of various attributes. I hadn't even washed my bike as I knew there would be many more exciting bikes than my humble-bumble. I was, therefore, gobsmacked to get an award for the best post-war machine at the meeting.

I have to take the cup back for next years meeting but I also have a medallion to keep.
