Has anyone got a camera mounted on their bike ?

I don't really fancy one stuck on the top of my head but imagine that a bike mounted one would shake too much to get a good picture.

Thinking that I could mount one on the sidecar.

What are your findings ?

Personally I don't like those helmet mounted camera videos. They make it look like the world is moving around the camera.
I'm thinking of buying a fixture to mount my phone on the handlebars and make videos with my phone but as you say, bit unsure about the effect the vibrations will have

I tried velcross to hold my phone to my riding jacket seemed secure enough and walking pictures were fine ,just the though of my nice new all sing all dancing phone bouncing down the road holding me back

Recent video by DartmoorStar was a relatively clear and stable picture, almost like riding the bike. Camera seemed to be quite low, so bike mounted?

I’ve got a SJCAM which gives excellent clear video, and has anti shake, the sound nd however is rubbish.
I’ve mounted it in a few places on my Aprilia RSVR, best result was stuck to the right hand fairing lower, got some great footage of a few rides round Wales, good being able to see how hard the Ohlins forks work.
I’ve clipped it to my jacket pocket for a couple of rides on the A10, a bit shaken but not bad.

I like the look of that one. It says it loop records but doesn't say for how long or if you can turn off loop and just record a whole trip.

If I could figure out how to post just a picture on here it would be a start. I’m not terribly good at this technology stuff. I’ll try to figure it out at some point but all my previous attempts to post a pic of my bike have resulted in a telling off for my file size being too big.
So do I have to save stuff to Boto-phucket or something in order to post it??

G'day Minto.
For resizing I use "Paint" a windows app. Right click on photo, open with Paint, click resize. It asks by what % so just try 50% and save as (add a 2 to the name and save to desktop).

 Minto, I don't wish to overload you with options, but I somehow have a appy thing on my last three Android phones called 'Photoresizer'- daed easy, just use it to 'take a photo' and save it in a small choice of resolution and job done. The good thing about it is the photo is already in a small file size so saves storage space, and don't end up with multiple files.
       Just need to save to SD card and not the infernal drive (when they all get lost when the phone breaks)
File can then be sent via bluetooth or whatever or just add to the reply/post via the forum method- pieceapiss

while i dont have a camera to speak of, a mate has a new-ish sony (=$$$)  waterproof action cam that he attaches to his modern. the main things are its got a decent image stablilizer so doesn't shake about so the image is solid despite some vibration  (but its a modern triple, not a bsa!). then think about the lens angle -if its too wide you get a wide vista of the side of the road but everything ahead is a tiny dot. when he was chasing me around a track it looked like i was miles ahead  but most of that was the lens   . then check if it makes one file or many. some clip the files at 1G max, then make multiple files, which is usually fine but annoying if you want to watch a long ride. conversely some cameras will lose the whole file if the battery goes flat before you stop filming, so 'chunks' may be better. I think the real problem is its hard to establish all this before you put your money down.

personally i think all cameras should be banned from the road as an invasion of privacy. i fear someones dash cam is going to cost me some legal money one day

Shot this video of the 2017 Distinguished Gentlemens Ride with my Galaxy S7 in a chest harness. Start the recording with a voice command, but haven't figured out how to stop it the same way. For that, push a screen button. No looking necessary.

 Yes that's probably (one of) my major concern too...but works both ways

 I also dislike the helmet cams too-anyone looking at my footage if I did it would need to go straight to Optio-psych ward debriefing....

 Though I reckon if I had one and there was a bounty on cage drivers using phones, I'd make a fortune- maybe a handlebar mounted one on a swivel or something....but that's not much different to using a mobile device is it  ?   saw a girl texting the other day with both hands on a freeway
