Headlamp shell light switch

This one is driving me daft.
There was no clip on the rotary switch in the headlamp nacelle when I dismantled it. (53 plunger A10)
I've got a new switch with an octagonal bent wire clip, but I can't work out how to use the clip to secure the switch.
Any instruction gratefully received.
Nearly finished - tank, saddle and sidecar to attach.

It'll now be a day or two before I try it. Sidecar fitting is not going well with just one person. Lifting and tightening at the same time is not easy :-)

Adrian, If your bike has the diver's helmet, you may find the switch knob tail fouls on the cowl where the pressing turns out to cover the fork shroud. I am led to believe the switch comes as a short or long knob type.

 I didn't know this long ago, and just cut away one of the switch locating tabs on the cowl, to turn the switch body slightly. Not noticed, but it would have been better in retrospect to obtain the correct knob. That was then, now you are spoilt for choice.

 A thin rubber ring goes between the underside of the switch and the cowl. Julian's picture shows the clip, which engages in slots moulded into the switch body parallel to the switch face.

Yes i thought I'd ordered a new switch with short handle, but sure enough it fouled when
I mounted it. I cut it down with a hacksaw and polished it - looks fine now.
I'm missing the rubber ring but I think I'll get away with an elastic band or make one out of an inner tube.

I think it may be a badly manufactured switch with little or no groove for the clip to hold.
Remains to be seen if it works when it's cured.

Would it be possible to enlarge the groove in the plastic, using a rat-tail file?

That may well work, there is only one shallow groove, I may have to cut another.
I'll wait to see if the sealant works - it'll take a couple of days to cure, still everything has to go into abeyance for a week on Friday when I'm off on holiday - no bike!
