Monobloc when hot leaks from tinkler .
« on: 05.07. 2019 15:58 »
I have an A10 with a monobloc when I try to start it hot fuel comes out the tinkler valve . When I leave to cool or the fuel cools down the carb it starts fine . I have opened the float chamber but see nothing wrong there . The needle valve is plastic maybe an alloy needle is better ?

Sorry to be very cheeky but can I adjust your sentence so I can understand it:

I have an A10 with a monobloc. When I try to start it hot, fuel comes out when I tinkle the carb. When I leave to cool or the fuel cools down the carb, it starts fine. I have opened the float chamber but see nothing wrong there.

I only press the tickler button when the engine is cold, just to richen the mixture a tad. You may be causing the engine to flood if you are tickling when hot.

I would rebuild that section of the carb, new float and new Viton Tip and a few gaskets, sounds like it's flooding. I have just had an old carb Viton tip fail after only 700 miles. Do you have a spacer on the carb connection which is important.

Have you put the float in upside down?

Have you lost the float spindle spacer or fitted it on the wrong side of the float?

Have you put a fibre washer under the float valve?  Confusingly, new Monoblocs have a washer; old ones don’t.

I would imagine quite a few of us on here have leaky tinklers.

Should we change to a viton tip then ;)

When cold I need to blow into the petrol tank to get enough flow to tinkle the carb  . I have no fiber washer under the float valve .I will get one and try .

The fibre washer is only fitted with the monoblocs which take the thin concentric type flange O ring and have a recess machined in the body where the needle seat screws in to accept it. See the photo below.

Fitting fibre washer to a body without the recess will be likely to cause flooding as the fuel level will be raised and in some cases the float may touch and be stopped by the tickler and  before it fully closes the valve.

The carburetor on my A10 has the recess  . I noticed that the float  was rather restricted and touching the tickler .I put  a fiber washer in the float needle holder and it seems better . I need to test when hot . Thanks !!

When cold I need to blow into the petrol tank to get enough flow to tinkle the carb.

What?!
Is the flow just a dribble?
Clean the gauze strainers in on the petrol tap and in the carb banjo fitting, for a start.
