A7 on the A7

Just for a bit of a laugh, I am thinking of riding my A7 (bike) the entire length of the A7 (road) this weekend, starting in Carlisle and riding to Edinburgh and back. It is 92 miles each way, but just to keep it leisurely I think that I will do it over two days. If any other forum members fancy tagging along for all, or some, of the journey please feel free to drop me a PM.

(Obviously this is more likely to appeal to UK based forum members, but everyone is invited)!

Good road, weather forecast is good too. Unfortunately I'll be busy out with the Pipe Band at the Peebles Beltane Festival - just a few miles out of earshot from the A7.

That would be enjoyable, if the weather is OK, but I'm really too far away to make it. I hope you enjoy the rides.

Once rode the A5 end to end on the A10. London in the rush hour - never again!

Assuming that I walked solidly for ten hours per day, I would have to maintain a steady walking speed of 9.2mph over the two days in order to cover the 184 miles in 20 hours. I know that you antipodean types are keen on exaggerating your fitness levels, but for us mere mortals, that is a bit ambitious. I think I will stick to my plan of doing it on the bike!

Don’t forget Wozza, this is Europe, not Australia. We find it great achievement to accomplish a 100 mile tour in one day. Visiting grandma in the next village takes a full day of preparation...  *eek*  *smile*

To be honest, it is more about the journey than the destination anyway. There is nothing that I particularly want in Edinburgh, and nothing which I particularly need to rush home for on Sunday. But if I am riding along and I happen to notice a curious rock formation, an unusual bird, an unfamiliar historic site a bizarre building, or an inviting looking pub, I want to have the time to pull over and Google it up and enjoy it. Likewise, if there happens to be a magnificent view I want to allow the time to stop for an hour or two and soak it it, perhaps reading a little poetry as I do so! I use my bike for work on weekdays and it is always a rush to get somewhere, but when I am off on a jaunt, I want the time to just enjoy it.

Plus I need to allow time for breakdowns, roadside repairs and taking shelter from rain storms. (Not that As ever break down of course)!

Yeah I guess your right..
EXAMPLE > My mate & his wife ( her driving all the way ) left Townsville FNQ on Thursday & have made it to Shepparton Vic today..  = 2.450 Kms in 9 hour stints in 3 days..  *eek*
Prior to his stroke he would RIDE down to my place & return 2 or 3 times a year for the classic races at Philip Island..
