I should perhaps have mentioned that it is a good hours ride from my home just to get me to the southern end of the A7 in Carlisle. But what an absolutely awesome days riding!!! It is days like today when all those hours of oil leaks, flat batteries, skinned knuckles and washers dropped in inconvenient places just fade into memory.
I am now sitting in my tent near Galashiels having stopped for the night. But I managed to clock up over 160 miles on the BSA today, which included several thousand feet of ascent and some pretty hectic city riding as I negotiated my way through Edinburgh. The sun shone all day and the bike just purred along between fifty and sixty without missing a beat. The road was virtually empty and the views were amazing. It really was the most perfect day. Tomorrow I have a brief 100 mile ride to get me home and then back to work on Monday. (on the BSA of course)!
All I can say is that if you do get the chance to ride the A7 on an A7, then you should certainly do it. You could probably also do it on an A10, but it wouldn't have the same ring to it!
