I just received a pair of Doherty Made In England handlebar grips and forgive me if I’m being too picky but the quality is horrendous.
They couldn’t line up both half’s of the mold, the grip pattern doesn’t line up and there’s a step of both ends.

More like made in China & packaged in England. Or maybe not - some of the chinese stuff isn't bad. Just don't trust their metallurgy though.

Confirmed Doherty is owned by MCA and makes more sense. Never have been satisfied with MCA products!

Cheap rubber often smells of coal and better rubber doesn’t  (“they” appear to use cheap coal dust to make it black).

Synthetic rubber is black because carbon black is used as a filler.
If it is white then talc or ground chook feathers is the filler.
Neither of them serves any purpose other than to bulk out the material and protect against UV penetration.
What makes the difference is the binders
For decades the price of natural latex has gone lower than the floor as synthetics , particularly silicons replaced latex products.
So rubber compounders pack as much latex in as they can get away with and that is what causes rubber stuff to fall apart in short time.
