Needle jet position

Good evening gents,
Needle jet position 3 for example. Is it 3 from the top or bottom?

need to know what carb Steve.
on my monoblocs the needle has 5 slots to fit into so 3 is middle whichever way you count it, however I have seen needles with four slots so a quote from Amal site
