K2f brass points plate, wanted.

Am looking for a NOS (or a used one in very good condition) brass plate, complete with original lucas points. Anyone knows of a source ? (Alternatively the newer type, but NOS lucas, not the counterfeit!)

My old K2F brass points plate had a badly worn points pivot mounting, and the points were flopping around everywhere.  I bought an NOS one, and it was $150.  It might have been better to "braze" the pivot hole over, and redrill for the points.

SRM and others make steel ones for a lot cheaper.  If I ever have to buy another (although I probably will not need to), I'll buy one of those.

Tony Cooper of Halesowen, England sells good steel ones- not the kind that fail!  I've had the bad ones and Tony's are different and better.

I don't think he works through a website. You have to phone him.  Most Norwegians I've met speak better English than Tony or me, so it shouldn't be a problem.

So these counterfeit breaker plates, how can you tell the difference? I got one on ebay for pretty cheap, might be that the fellow knew that?

My problem with the brass contacts plate, points and their combination was points not lining up properly when closed (at a useless angle or offset, or even both).

The repro points for brass plate I bought = disaster, wasted time and money. Try before you buy!

Currently using a set of NOS lucas, ebay special price for you (= expensive), but result near perfect. Am still looking for the perfect NOS brass plate w. points, and keep the one I have now as very good spare.

It would have to be "than Tony or I do," to be correct, wouldn't it?  I was treating Tony and myself as objects so I think it could be correct, if slightly slovenly.

On two bad plates on which the points post came loose, the part of the post that goes through the plate was hollowed for rivetting.  The good one I got from Tony has a sort of solid rivet head.  In place it looks like a nail head, slightly proud of the flat surface of the back of the plate.  I don't know if it's Lucas' original or Tony's pattern part.

If the plate is otherwise good (and points lining up properly), that could maybe be fixed forever with a small silver\bronze (or whatever it's called) welding job. Picture, my tools for such jobs.

I think you're right about fixing it like that.  I soft-soldered one but haven't used it.

I just remember one of the bad plates had a pos that was not hollow, but was made of copper-coloured metal and was crudely peened over.

interesting, I'll have to have a good look at the one I've put aside now as a "spare" since I never actually installed it.


triton, I really was totally joking, only because you were speaking to the use of proper English did I have to comment
