By way of introduction...
« on: 24.07. 2009 00:47 »
Hi,
Or should i say hello, Ive just bought a 1949 A7 plunger, after years of ceefer ownership I have finally purchased a proper "gentleman's" motorcycle, only 18 years after seeing a picture of one in a book and thinking "my god, one day all motorcycles will look like this" ah progress is slow. The 60 year old in question is neither concourse nor original and to be honest that's pretty much what I was looking for, I wasn't after an ornament to polish, rather an icon to ride, we will see how realistic a proposition this is : the front brake is a joke, front suspension lethal, gearbox refuses to change at high revs, lights failed on first run and she is a bit erm, cammy, but I am grinning as i write this : it sounds like the end of the world, she has a magnetic attraction for boys young and old, I end up sitting outside the workshop looking at her instead of working, in short I think I'm in luv.

Hi Louie... Good to have you along, there is getting to be quite a few owners of early A7s here now. They are indeed very nice bikes to ride. Enjoy the forum!

Hullo Louie,
That made me smile. One of the first times I took the girl, who is now my wife, out on my bike, we ended up in the beer garden of a quiet country pub, her observation after 20 minutes:
"That bike would be great, if you wanted to pull middle aged men."
Cheers,
Iain

Hello,
On re-reading my original post I feel i should reassure the good members of this forum that I am not actually out to pimp boys young or for that matter old! Lesson learned, no more posting after a night on the town...Oh my. But seriously I do a lot of welding for bikers and scooter boys and every one wants to talk about her, not to mention random people poking there heads in the door asking to hear her running. Thanks for all your kind replies and I am sure I will be making use of the tech section of the forum over the next few months. Does anyone know of a repairer in the west of Scotland who is knowledgeable enough to work on machines of this age, I am not too bad with a spanner and abble tackle most things myself, but the issue with the gearbox is worrying, it may just need adjustment so I don't want to pull it to bits. Cheers.

Louie.
