What an absolute f***ing idiot somebody is.
Tried to fire up the bike, it tried to go and did for a couple of seconds od spluttering then conked. Hmm seems like a fule issue. Yep one petrol tap nothing coming out at all the other a slow trickle but not as far as it should do. Drained tank and removed both taps that had some black specks on the filters so I cleaned them and blow out the taps, more black specks of paint appeared.
I removed the petrol cap on the tank and lo and behold some idiot ( I want to use stronger words) the guy who sprayed the tank had sprayed the black paint inside the neck of the tank that the cap screws onto. The paint sprayer had obviously not blanked off the inner of the petrol neck on the tank, The paint had crinkled and was flaking off into the tank. I tried to start the bike again but similar happened just a short burst, splutter and stop.
I removed the banjo bolt on the bottom of the Amal Mk1 concentric carb and found flecks of black paint on the nylon filter. Now there was not enough on the filter to block the flow of petrol through to the jets. I assume the issue now is a blocked main jet. Grrrrrr. Next job remove tank fuel lines and carb and give them a good clean.
Any advice appreciated. BTW do I have to remove the carb from the manifold to remove and clean the main jet?
