Rear mudguard clearence ? (with photo)

Bought some replica BSA GOLD STAR REAR MUDGUARD BRIDGE...42-6832 as I am fitting my rebuild A7SS with an alloy rear mudguard, non valenced. My seat is 100% original BSA base.

Seems to make the seat perch high and leave a large gap between the   underside of the guard and tyre, but when I look at various RGS type images, maybe thats wholly normal. Or maybe the pattern parts are incorrectly too far "humped"

I would have thought some folks would have made shorter customized brackets as IMO the BSA design looks curious with the nuge gap, given the rear shocks probably have 3 ins on movement, if that!

Much appreciate if someone measured   any non-valanced type mudguard gap they have, to check with mine.

Modern, low profile tyres on these bikes look wrong to me. Too gappy.

Dear Greybeard and Trevinoz well it could be a plunger base, I'd have none to compare it to but when I use google images to look at various plungers, they have  IMO a different shape, much more "V" like. I asked my upholsterer to add a little bit more "hump" at the back of this one, which we custom ccovered in Kenya ( beautiful job).

My original valanced mudguards got stolen, but this seat base does fit the bracket  42-9196 that they had.

The tyres are Dunlop classic pattern and yes everything is "too gappy" but that is not a  result of the seat.... it might be a result of the pattern mudguard brackets I note to start the thread. Looking at RGS and Catalinas pix of Google Images, they are darned "gappy" too.

If anyone can comment on this or provide a under-guard to tire measurement, ratek around the rear of the seat or where the "U" brace is,  when on main stand..I'd be grateful

My 58 A10 SA has about 5 in. gap.

Compared to the attached photo, one would have to say not a plunger seat. I think the excess uptilt confuses what we expect to see in an early swingarm seat.

The shock absorbers look long - may be the make with long chrome shrouds make them look long - but are they the correct length 12.9 inches fully extended between centres?

Could we see a photo with seat removed?

If I compare with mine the mudguard brackets are at the same position to the wheel as yours so I don't think you're far off.
Looking from the side, the top of the rim and about 1/2" of tyre can be seen below the bracket.

Hi Julian, I will check that on the shocks..I did think of it since the BSA SA and silentblocs does allow  is stopped by the shock length.

Got them from a reasonable shop...and could only have mixed them up with ones for a Triumph T100 I am building...but those would have been 11.9" max travel..even shorter.
