Mounting Indian clocks on a A7-A10
« on: 17.07. 2018 17:48 »
Still not got/bought my BSA A7 yet as the DVLA are taking their time to return the V5 documents but that is not to say I have not been busy acquiring a few bits ready for it's arrival. The bike is not standard and it has no speedometer. I am not prepared to pay silly money for a genuine Smiths clock and to match the rest of the bike I also wanted a tacho. Indian copies are deeper in the casing but that does not bother me given there will be lots of none original parts including mudguards and headlamp. I purchased a fork top instrument bracket 2 SS brackets that attach to it, rubber mounts and those very helpful guys at CPC engineering in Cornwall UK knocked up a couple of Indian clocks to bracket adapters for me at a very reasonable price. Now I just need the DVLA to get their finger out and send the seller of the bike the new registration and V5

G'day Atoll.
That looks OK mate. Both look to be from the same manufacturer so strange that the mount studs are 90 degrees different.
Cheers

Did contact the seller on eBay in India and suggested they should have them all the same. They checked their stock and reported although they are from the same manufacturer the speedo had the mounting bolts horizontally while the tacho bolts are mounted vertically. They did agree with me and said they would contact the manufacturer about the issue. That was a few weeks ago now and nothing further from them. I am OK with them though as they are quite cheap at just £18 and £20 delivered.  Can't complain at those prices.

Those look quite attractive and have been wondering about some of them for some projects I have. Conversely there is a seller on US Ebay with the same arrangement of Original Smiths and asking $1900 USD.. I have 2 NOS with certificats on sale currently but not keen to sell them as I have projects that can use them, But I could use the $$$ as well, so, if someone wants to pay my premium for Originals in dealer packaging great, if not oh well.

The only downside is the backsides of yours, and on a cafe or clubsmans will be visible.  perhaps a cup can be fashioned??  I will be interested in how well you do long term with them, I agree, price cannot be beat.

I have used a variety of repop instruments on some projects and in general most give better service than the originals.  I have on set left from the old US dealer DomiRacer and they sold repop black face with their company logo on them. As a shop I sold about 16-18 sets and wish I had more, I have a Unit Triumph road racer tribute bike I think they will go on.. or maybe a cafe Norton as I have a 650ss Manxman project and would be an interesting detail.

There is a guy who shows up to events sometimes that is the US distributor for NEW Smiths digital versions that include Chrono replicas,, They certainly look nice but the prices are ahemmmmmmm.... Steep.

Here’s what I made for a mate.
Rolled mirror stainless, and welded to a slightly modified stainless clock bracket. Front end was closed up with a bit of rubber sheet cut to suit.
