What's Wrong With My Oil Tank (With Photo)?
« on: 05.07. 2018 11:34 »
Hi, am not sure if this is right or wrong for my 59 A7SS....seems like the return pipe is pinched off and not sure it should be this way?

Pete, that's the end of the pipe, it looks to be leaned over a bit, and if you carefully straighten it up, it should have a hole in the side of it about an inch down from the top that is the actual return hole...dunno what the other thing is closer to the hole, maybe a breather- I'm not familiar with those ones

Snap mines the same, it's the return pipe and it's crimped at the top with oil return hole approx. 1/2 below.
The other item appears to be a breather but the arrangement differs to my 1960 A10 set up.

Hi Peter,
Has the tank the breather tower further along the top?
It should have
I would think oil would pee out that one on the filler neck  *????*

You might find this little video I made showing oil flow amusing:

Seems the jury is in harmony *eek*, and Pete, I forgot to add that if it isn't connected and been sitting for a while I expect you'll be poking a wire up it and blowing air through it to make sure it's not blocked, hey  ?

I did have an oil tank obstruction during a ride to new plymouth last year which caused the engine to wet sump badly, it was right at that orifice too, so was a very simple fix. a small alan key poked in the hole had it back to normal, So the oil was diverting back into the rocker box *doh*
