49 A7 plunger when purchased
« on: 09.07. 2009 09:18 »
Well here we go, this is my 1949 A7 plunger which I came across last year while looking for a Bonnie on which to continue my mid life crisis.
Familiar story am sure!
So says to wife "I always regretted selling my old trumpet for £200" wife says "well buy another one, how much are they now?"
Me says about £4000, wife has apoplexy!
Wife has better idea, "why don't you buy nice shiny Ducati Monster, how much are they? Me says 4995 OTR, wifes head about to fall off!

Wife says: "you are good at fixing things, buy an old bike & do it up, how much will that cost?"
Here's my chance! Well it depends I say, not much really, and it would be a good hobby!

So executive decision made start looking for old bike, find neighbor has a very rusty 77 T140 parked in his hedge.
Unfortunately he thinks it's worth thousands, upon realising it's not he decides to leave it rusting in his hedge, still there one year later.
He truly believes it's going up in value.

Anyway, brother tells me his neighbour has old Matchless in garage so go to take a look & find this.
A bit of negotiation & not much money & it's loaded into the car.

Wife is mucho happy that I got a bike for so little.
That is until she stands in the garage saying "where is it?" & me points at several very tired boxes of rust!
"HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE THAT SHINY?" she exclaims, steam venting from her ears!
With the best part of £4000 I say to MYSELF!

You meant the A7 plunger surely? I take it that from looking at your avatar photo that the rusty purchase is now complete? Cant wait for part two of the story...  *smile*

Anyway... great choice of bike as there cant be many early A7s left now, I'm loving mine to bits!
