Wanted: 1951 A7 brake\clutch lever blades
« on: 31.03. 2018 19:00 »
My 1951 A7 came with the brake and clutch levers of the type where the horn and mag cut-out buttons are mounted on the backs of the levers. Don't know if that was original or an O/E of the time.
I need a source for new blades as they were both missing for some reason. The pivot centres look to be the smaller 7/8 dimension but 7/8 levers (as on welded-lug Bantams etc) look wrong....it's not a smooth line from bracket to lever as the lever is "too tall" for this application. Anyone suggest a source?  Thanks.

I still have the original complete levers you describe in my box of bits-n-bobs. I don't want to part with them as one day I may get them replated and I'll use them. I can post photos here if that helps.

G'day Rex.
The Draganfly site is good for looking at the right parts for particular models.
https://www.draganfly.co.uk/index.php/bsa/bsa/a710--b3133--c101112--m202133/category/991-handlebars-controls-a-cables
Your levers should be 107LH7/8 107RH7/8.

Thanks GB that would be helpful, especially if the levers are complete.
Musky, you'd think that would be the ones but sadly it doesn't appear so. They're the ones I've tried and seem too tall (if that makes sense)
On the other hand, maybe they were like this from new, but I haven't seen any in use to see how they looked.

I'll dig them out in the next few days and take photos. Just to clarify; the handlebar piece has a mounting area that the horn and cut-out buttons attach to.

Hej Rex- Some pics might help ?

 I had to research this when the Adji drove over mine, so today I took some pics of what I have;

Am using a type 219 which is effectively the same as a 107, but 1-1/8" pivot and ball end   (probably no help)    2070LH

For comparison I added an old lever combo that may be a '107LH'  , 107LH7/8     (dunno if these 'links' will work)
and a broken unknown bracket only that looks like it had something screwed to it, that I'm thinking sounds like your description *dunno*

Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

Hi Dutch and G/B, your bottom pic looks like the feller. A large flat area for the buttons to screw on to, and a single clamping screw at the bottom of the clamp.

I've had it a long time, but no idea where it's from or what it belongs to, maybe one of the Lever-Gurus can/will shed some light...

Edit** it  also doesn't appear to be stock for yours...must be a retro-fit

 Nb- the 'live- links' don't work for me .... (2070LH & 07LH7/8 )

I'm sure the lever with the buttons mounted is original for my machine.

I've taken many pictures of my levers and put them on my Dropbox server. Let me know if you are not able to view them or if you require more pictures:

Thanks GB that's the ones. On picture 10 the left hand one is how I reckon it ought to look and the right hand one is how mine would be with the Draganfly ones. (I found a 7/8" centres lever in my box of bits...shame it's unuseable!)  Certainly the lever would work (with Drag ones)  but it wouldn't look right. Feked also do a version of this blade but it probably comes from the same supplier as the Drag ones.

Rex, you seem to be saying that those levers do not look as though they are symmetrical. I think they are.

LATER: Maybe you are saying that the lever protrudes more where it meets the main part. I've taken some more pictures which I'll upload. There is some slack in the pivots but the blades more or less meet where they should.

I'm wondering about modifying those lever bases, (or whatever they should be called) so new blades fit nicely. If you havent yet replated the bases you could plug and redrill them.

Isn't that bit called the 'perch'?

Sounds reasonable.
