Amal Monobloc for 1959 golden flash

Hi to you all first time user.

Bought new Amal of them at stafford show all set for this model 1959 golden flash.

Bike wouldn’t start after many days of trying. Took it off, cleaned it all and used compressor to clear airways. Fitted it and it started, tried it again it started but now it total stopped again.

Found some small particles in the base. Must be from the tank, so cleaned all again, but won’t even fire.

Plugs are new and dry. New fuel. Mag was rebuilt great spark. Valves all rechecked.

Any ideas

Despite doing that it could very easily still be a blockage in the carburetor especially so as you mention finding small particles. I would suggest that the idle circuit is the prime suspect and you probably have a blocked or partially blocked pilot jet. Unfortunately compressed air does not always clear pilot jet blockages completely. It is quite possible that more particles have found their way into the jet and re blocked it. There may even be debris from the carburetor manufacturing process (drilling) for example still causing blockage problems. I know you state that it is a new carb, but this is not unheard of. I would suggest that it would be a good idea to clean the pilot jet again, and it might even be that you will need to push a suitable piece of thin wire through the jet to dislodge the blockage.

No smell \ signs of petrol anywhere ? (cylinders\plugs, exhaust, carb flooding).

So the petrol is entering the carb (free flow from tank, float needle working properly etc), main jet etc cleaned but still absolutely nothing \ zero coming out of the carb?

To indicate whether spark or carb is the source of the problem you could try one of the spray cans of “start yer bastard” or whatever the brand is called in your neck of the woods.....(ether) sprayed down the carb with throttle open, if you get it to fire normally a couple of times afterwards this would point towards the carb.

Just a thought, I assume the carb is flooding normally using the tickler button?

 .I bought an A10 from an auction and was told it was running.Got it home on a trailer then next day went to start it and it would not start for luv nor money, carb off, cleaned jets, got fuel, got spark, some knowledgeable friends of mine checked timing a few times and had the Mag off to investigate and found the back plate behind the points was not properly located in the Key way my mate said ,he then put it all back together, checked the timing again and hey presto. Started 2nd kick.. .was tempted to kick it in other places at times  .
