Side/prop stand for A7
« on: 27.02. 2018 09:25 »
Does anybody out there know of a good quality prop stand (forged?). Reading some older posts l have become aware of problems with some - to say the least. The thing on the bike is beyond redemption.
Burton Bike Bits one looked OK? Thanks in anticipation. Chris.

I bought a Triumph one from Burtons and modified it. When I saw a NOS original on EBay I bought that. If I still have the one I modded you can have it, but my memory is not as good as it used to be so I may already have offered it to someone else. I'll have a look later. Does your machine currently have the stand mount attached to the frame? If not, my one will be no good for you.

Here is a picture of the one I got from Burtons and then cut down and added a foot.

Mine doesn't have the rear half of the lug brazed on either, so can anyone recommend a side stand (possibly some universal type)?

First picture is what my modified Triumph stand looked like.  My bike has the stand mount, (not just half of it) already attached to the frame so all I needed was the actual leg and spring. I got the angle of the foot wrong but it worked ok. The other pictures I've just taken, (sorry about the muck!) is of the NOS one I have. It's far more delicate in appearance.

Assuming you have a swing arm frame you can use a side stand from a triumph T160 and slightly modify it for length

Yep, there's always that type, though I think I'd drill and tap for a grubscrew to be fitted around the back somewhere.
Seen more than a few bikes over the years leaning at a crazy angle due to one of those, though also seen a few where someone's got pee'd off with that and taken the MiG to it too..

i put one of those clamp-on stands on the b33 - I could not stop it rotating under the bikes weight when just held with the clamp/bolts. annoying

Obviously the steeper the lean angle the less pressure on the clamp to rotate. But then, the steeper the lean angle the more difficult it is to find a safe parking spot.

Odd, the first link worked when I tried it but now it's gone. The new link is ok ATM.

Update: I didn't realise it's being sold by Burton Bike Bits. So, you should have some expectation of quality.

Just don't set your quality expectations too high.
