Hi Peter,
Let's hope it will be like this in two week-end's time; Bunbury Two Day (see you there)!

Look for me on the red Super Rocket (with my wife on the back); behind every great man is a greater woman!

And greetings from sunny, warm south France, near the mediterranean :O)
My 19e sat dish in the garden, this evening (still provides a good signal!).

And a few cm's of snow here and there and it's total panic in France, airports, trains, roads, schools etc stops working. Funny.

We've got no snow here (mid-Essex), but they binned all the trains anyway.

Here in Yorkshire we appear to be heading for the collapse of civilization seemingly due to The Beast from the East, old ladies are clearing the shelves of the supermarkets of Bread , milk , butter and bleach just in case they cant get in tomorrow..........God help us if we get a full inch of snow!

Two weeks ago they had some snow in the Paris region. One of my French colleagues who lives at 25 km distance left office at about 18.30h and finally arrived home at 03.00h in the morning... Complete chaos.

^^^ Yes, was on the tv 24\24, 5 cm of snow like if some major terror attack (probably was in french' eyes, jihad from Mother Nature). They drive on their worn out summer tires (that includes police, buses, firetrucks etc) even when clearly warned days in advance of forthcoming snow and 'verglas'.

And if they by chance got chains or some decent snow tires, it's 1. don't know how and\or too lazy to fit them 2. are in the garage at home 45 km away.

Generally, french great lack of knowledge and practicality when faced with any problem is only equalled by the great ability to complain to \ blame administration \ government when anything goes wrong lol+++

For reference, travelling on the main road between Bergen-Oslo in N (two biggest cities), highest point in middle of winter. They keep it open (unless in the very middle of serious snowstorm of course).

Blocked in in 63 for three weeks, used tractors to get to nearest village (7 miles) for food, week two local baker walked 1 mile up to the farm with a basket of bread, took milk in convoy of 9 tracors in large plastic bags to the creamery at Alnwick (15 miles).
Snow was to deep for Coucil ploughs so JCB diggers and men with shovels ( us) had to dig out the roads - that's snow

We do seem to have become a very frightened society. Two or three inches here and trains cancelled schools closed and the advice to stay indoors unless you have to travel.
The following is snow 1987 the road through the village I lived in the other way was worse as it went through a valley.

E,

With all that snow you'd think Norway could have done better in the Winter Olympics.

Stayed dry and snow free here yesterday, but dropped maybe around 4" overnight. No trains for the Smoke for me again today (I am on a single track branch line).

It's about -1° C here but the wind chill is making it feel much colder  :-\ . I would not want to be out on my bike in this. I've been in my shed making stuff this morning but I was glad to come inside for a hot coffee.  *computer*

Not much laying snow here at the moment. It came down hard yesterday but obviously not cold enough to stay.
