Another Newbie!
« on: 10.01. 2018 20:30 »
Hello everyone!

My name is Simon and I've just won a 1954 Golden Flash on ebay that's been at the back of a garage for 45 years! So it will be treated to a nut and bolt rebuild, which I'm really looking forward to, although I know there will be 'challenging' moments! I've had a number of bikes over the last four decades but never a BSA, which I'm now putting right. My Dad, sadly no longer with us, bought one new on HP in the early 60's but it was repossessed when he couldn't meet the HP payments. So this one will be for my Dad!

I haven't picked the bike up yet (its 4 hours away) but I'm hoping the seller will agree to exchange money for BSA this weekend. I'm going to need much of the knowledge and wisdom on this forum to complete my restoration, which I think will take about a year (I'm still in full time work) so I'll post some pictures when I have the bike. It's looks OK considering its time in storage, and I'm hoping to reclaim as many original parts as possible.

I look forward to getting to know you on the forum over the coming months!

All the best, Simon

Welcome Simon59
Good luck with your project I'm sure it will be a pain at times as my 1960 A10 was last year. You will find it all worthwhile when it fires up. Ask all the questions you want as there are some very knowledgeable people on this Forum only too willing to help.

I hope this inspires you. It's a slideshow and video of my rebuild after the bike had been off the road for many years. I'd also like to know if your machine is a plunger or a swing arm model.

Excellent GB, lovely record to have, which must be an inspiration to others and . . . good to see a proper rear observation when taking off up the road.

Simon, best of luck with your project, a really worthwhile one, and especially so if dedicated to your Dad.

Thank you for your kind messages and your welcome  *smile*.

I am sure that I will need and use your knowledge and wisdom during my rebuild.

I collect the bike on Sunday, so I'll post some pictures of its 'before' condition. Greybeard's video will serve as an inspiration of what can be achieved. By the way its a plunger frame model.

I'll have to go through the process of getting it registered with the DVLA because it's been so long in storage. Anyone on the forum have any experience on this front?

All the best, Simon

Simon, at Wilmslow you are pretty close to one of the forum hero's; Andrew Guttman of Priory Magnetos at Macclesfield. He has recently been through an Annus Horribilis, (which does not refer to his bottom!) so you may not be able to use his business at the moment but when he's open he can supply much of the stuff you need for these machines. Andrew is an alright sort of bloke!  *smile*
