Carb to Airbox Rubber (Plunger )

Hi chaps, If the rubber connector elbow gets a hole in it would this weaken the mixture ? Was out for a ride Friday and noticed bike seemed to have a slight surge when over 45mph didn't seem to be misfiring or brake binding then ran out of fuel before I reached garage, pulled reserve on and carried on to garage half a mile down road and filled up. Surge still noticeable in fact a bit worse, so yesterday having a pay about found petrol leaking from carb when first starting it, when running it was ok when stopped no more leak . only when first starting so assumed sticking float and read the sections on this and started to remove tank and found rubber carb connector split and gaping wide apart.
Noticed it was in poor condition a while back but not split so tried Beezermac with no luck , he said supplier not making any.
Removed carb and stripped and cleaned out and put back together, float bowl full of dried crap cleaned out, but float tested ok for leak so lapped needle seat and put back together.
Surging seems to have stopped leaking stopped but worried with split rubber that mixture now too weak, does anybody know of a supplier that may have one in Uk as only one on Ebay is in America .   Thanks Dave

Try a repair with black RTV silicone, it's more than up to the job and is almost invisible.  I once tried making an entire connector out of it but that was a step too far.

A split rubber isn't going to weaken the mixture significantly. Normally the difference between an air cleaner and an open bellmouth is one size different on the main jet. Try C & D autos. I think that's where I got my last one.

Well I guess its not my week  :! Smiley was too far gone to weld and will need to be scrapped Hey Ho !
Tried ringing Jeff Hunter on the carb rubber no answer so sent him email and low and behold he still there and makes them and sells them  £15 each at t, thoughthe moment, also sent me current catalogue which contains quite a lot of BSA parts plus many other makes so when I get a moment later I will try and upload it on here for anyone else to use.
 Now the week gets worse, thought I had cured the surge but out yesterday and its fine at low speeds fine at anything over 55mph but in mid range its stuttering like a misfire then runs ok for half a mile then does it again. Its like its cutting out then back in again anything from 1 to 5 times on trot then every now and then would bang in airbox like it was igniting in there.
Today got bike out and it would not start, thought it was flooded , took plugs out and checked them bone dry and mixture colour looked good . Checked for sparks and nothing,  even daft enough to put finger in caps then turned it over by hand but nothing,
Put plugs back in gave more tickling on carb and 2 kicks bike starts and runs for a bit then as its running starts to knock airslide off bit by bit and then bike coughs bangs and stops again with petrol running out off bottom of carb again and bike just goes whoomf and flames around carb and mag, shuts petrol off and flames getting bigger and could I buggery blow them out.......could smell burning under tank and now I am panicking runs in garage and gets old fire extinguisher and set it off , luckily it put out the fire but now bike looks like a homepride flour graders work bike and I dare not try and run it again because I don't know whats caused problem now
Aint life a bitch  *sad2*so I have wheeled it back in garage now I am sure fire is out and sod it for today , walking the dog to the pub has just been the suggestion of the week from my beloved wife ! *conf* Any ideas and suggestions where to start would be gratefully received .     Thanks  Dave

Just received delivery of a new air filter connecting rubber from a company on ebay, ebay name CLASSIC BIKE SPARES , this chap has an ebay shop trading as CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE SPARES if anyone has used them. Gents name is David Wilkinson  resides Spalding area.
Part number 67-4589 for my plungie and must say I am highly chuffed with quality of the rubber (not the crumbly hard rubber things seem to be these days ) nice proper flexible rubber , very good fit in airbox and on to carb and on time delivery for £21.50 if anyones needing one.

No mate only took 2 days to arrive but did take 12ths to make a start after the fire due to 2 year with no pay after knee op then dealing with loads of other crap including being diagnosed with PTSD and ending up on happy pills which all together did not make me feel like doing anything to the bike or even riding it. Made a start now tho and found out that dry power fire extinguisher + any moisture in the air = SOME CORROSION  *eek*
