Anyone got the good oil on rims?
« on: 14.06. 2009 07:50 »
Gday,
I'm close to getting new rims for the A7.
Other than they are round things you put tyres on, I know nothing.
Aside from alloy rims, the choice seems to be 'Italian chrome rims', 'English chrome rims' 'no name chrome rims' and 'no name stainless rims'.
It would be nice to talk to my wheel builder with a bit of knowledge.
Are there rims out there that represent compelling value? Are there pigs that should be avoided?
I've given up Guinness for a month to get this far and would like something good for the effort.
Stainless spokes also seem the go??
cheers

Olev... I've had a disapointment with my year old chrome rims that I purchased from an expensive very well known dealer here in the UK. If I knew that rust spots would be appearing after such a short time i'd have gone for stainless as they are not that much more expensive. I do have stainless spokes and they are very very good but get the thicker ones for extra strength.

Olev,
Ive had stainless rims and spokes on my Triumph for the last 10 years and on my A10 for the last  3 . Virtualy maintenence free ,Very easy to clean.dont have to polish.Had no problems with them. With stainless spokes you want to specify plated brass nipples. No point fitting plated steel .Apparently stainless nipples do exist but the threads tend pick up and seize on s/s spokes and give you grief if you have to adjust or undo them.
"Central wheel" company did mine.
