I bought a set of high level pipes a few years ago from Armours and was very pleased with them.

Ummm...familiar thread here.  But 5 years ago I bought a pair of downpipes & silencers from Amours - the downpipe bracket fit was 3 inches out on one side and too high. Told to bend bracket slightly!!! Yeah right!  Returned them at my expense only to be charged extra for a non-existant scratch.  Very poor attitude - and of course it was all my fault, so.... Bought a set from Wassels of Cannock (not Lincoln).  Much better fit, and even helped to fit them - real customer service.

Just to close the loop on this from my end - I bought a silencer from http://www.classicbikeshop.co.uk

Really happy with it, looks the part and the service was very quick. When it comes round to buying pipes I will try them first and report back.

Thanks for your advice so far, led to me discounting armours.

1962 A7 Shooting Star

Expensive "Burgess" Silencers fitted at present but obviously missing any packing as they are offensively loud and crude. How do the manufacturers get away with it.

Having had an identical bike in 1960 I know how they should sound.

Are there any sweet sounding silencers out there.

G'day Ian  *welcome*
In my book the sweetest sound is NO silencer  *whistle*.
The old tin top excuse "I didn't see him". But if they hear you (over the radio/cd/phone) they look *ex*
None of my bikes have baffles. Lots is good, more is better and too much is just enough. LOL.

If you ride in London then the big threat is phone fooling pedestrians wandering around in the road when you are lane splitting. You for sure need something that will get their attention before they step under your wheels.

So, loud exhausts are a safety feature?  *good3*

Same as a reflective jacket might be really I suppose. I wouldn't want to be running my HD through a housing estate late at night, but it seems to work in traffic situations when you are filtering.

I have bought from armours and returned the pipes they were that poor a fit. I kept the goldies silencers from armours and the first time I got caught out in the rain they rusted instantly. £200 quid well wasted there for sure.

I have bought from feked and I cant think of one good thing to say about them either

For downpipes in my experience go to Kidderminster Motorcycles around Birmingham way. Great service and pipes that actually fit without bending any brackets to suit. They would be my choice every time
