From my looking around, guessing it's just a '72 Bonneville with a BSA tank thrown on.

...but now understand that BSA apparently branded it with the "T65". Dumb.

OK, so it's based on a T6. WTF do I know?

Borrowed this from BritBike.Com
"The T65 was/is an oif Triumph 650 Trophy with BSA tank badges and 'BSA' cast into the alternator timing cover. Of those that were built (somewhere between 200 and 300, the exact number varies depending on source), certainly the vast majority (if not all) went to the South Australia Police, a long-time BSA user that had an outstanding order when BSA went tits-up in 1972. Some sources mention supply of a small number to one of the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi or Doha iirc) and possibly some to South Africa.

It's possible that the T65 was intended for public sale; every now-and-then, odd prototypes of various BSA models badged with other British makers' logos surface in one or other of the British old-bike mags. Certainly also, even now, it's relatively easy to find official T65 parts books and owner's manuals on Fleabay for not a lot of money, and it's on Kim's BSA CD. In the end, BSA's failure became such a train-crash that the management of the newly-formed NVT decided, probably wisely, to give the BSA name just a quiet funeral.

Finally, another peculiarity of the T65 - although they're oif Triumphs, with oif forks, they have the pre-oif drum front brake."

Well how about that, I have a 'Kim the CD Man ' CD, and it's on it (Publication # 00-4220).

I thought I'd looked at all of the titles to see if they had anything I needed but must have stopped at '72 after looking at the A70.
Noting the '69-'70 TLS front brake
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

I've got one in my shed.
I used to ride it some years ago but it is in need of a bit of restoration.
Adding to Musky's post, the timing cover doesn't have a patent plate and "Triumph" is stamped on the number block on the left crankcase.
Interestingly, the 1969 - 70 brake was also fitted to Triumph 650s built at the same time.
I have no idea whether all were so fitted but several Bonnies & TR6s were sold here with it.

A bit more.
The S.A. Police bikes had a single seat, crash bars, panniers (white) and small top box. Windscreen.
The speedo was a chronometric and no tacho.
When I got mine it was a bit sad, one piston was holed but it is still on standard bore. I fitted a used piston with new rings on both & new slippers on the big ends.
It had only a black face magnetic speedo which looked lop-sided so I fitted a tacho.
The seat pictured came with it but it had a two gallon BSA tank which was completely wrong and useless.
All in all a nice bike to ride and a great talking point when the "experts" saw it.

Trev,

First of all, amazing you have one of these, considering it came up here as a complete oddity. Second, maybe I've just forgotten, but I don't remember the last time you posted a picture, if ever.

According to an article in one of the magazines some years ago, 264 were built and were the first production on the Triumph assembly line in August 1972 over 3 days. First numbered JH15001 thus 1973 model.
Mine is sure to have been an SA Police bike.
I've posted pictures of many things over the years, Richard.
Here's some more taken in the early 80s.
They all still live here.

The end of B.S.A. reminds me of the story about the end of Indian.

1953 was the last year they sold bikes, but supposedly there was no manufacturing that year at all.

All 1953 bikes were made from left over parts, and almost none were  exactly identical.

I don't know how much truth there is to that, but seeing B.S.A. did the same kind of thing maybe it's not far off the mark.
