I'm not getting at you.  I once ran a Norton Jubilee gearbox out of oil.

It made yelping noises and seized.

 You gonna pull it apart before you take it to him? We (I) wanna look-see, you may(hopefully) be surprised how bad it's not.

 You should be able to get the lump out/in with the head&rocker box on; from memory I just needed to remove the inlet valve looksee cover and rear stud.
 Clutch and bits need to come off anyway, so nothing lost there.
Fairly sure I managed to reach & tighten the top G'box bolts with a socket on a 3/8" extension drive- I'll check on that.

 I checked my G-box oil the other week, and was surprised to find water droplets in the cover .. got hard-rained on a couple of times and I suspect it may have seeped down the kickstart shaft, drained it out (~350ml) and replaced it, but still need to pull the end-cover for a proper look.

Over the last week I've become aware of second and third gear becoming whiny and now grindy on my Plunger A10.

  All smart in retrospect, but before doing a trip.?...
 

.... Oh, I must have forgotten that I used that new invisible oil cos I can't see anything dripping into the tray!

 I love that; don't tell us it was on special so you bought a truckload .....
  ...a bit like my 'invisible concrete' story... back in '99, I was in 'Wozza-World' (Mullbin), and we were pouring a industrial driveway in the Westurbs (Laverton), dumped a few cubes and the truck (Agi/lorry), was almost empty.. dumbass knowall Anji (ring-in boss) had the truck move; I said " Anj(ello), the trucks empty"...he said "no, there's a good half cube in there' 

 So after a bit of muckin' round, got the truck in place and spun the bowl and a few stones rolled out and Anj says (he was a totalfurquit) "spin the bowl-spin the bowl "....I said " Anj, the bowls spinning- the truck's empty.." He said " no there's a good half metre in there- so I said " what a half metre of Invisible Concrete "    He looked at me weirdlike  - was one of those 'yea had to be there' situations

No sorry; I'm wearing good clothes today so I'm not inclined to get oily. If Gearbox Man strips the box while I'm there I'll take photos.

Obviously you need to check everything so it will be refurbed back to good but for future info (and to satisfy my aged memory ) isn't it possible, with the clutch off to pull all the innards out for examination and to change things like dogs etc. Reason is when I had mine (plunger ) (Shit was it really 50 yrs ago i owned that bike !! ) I can remember reassembling the g/box on the road outside our old shop ,can't remember why ( def not for fun )  but sure it happened .

Yes Topdad, it would be possible to strip the box in situ but I was advised by a wise man that my problem was probably the drive side layshaft blind bush and that cannot be removed without access to the back of the box where it's masked by the primary chaincase. Also, if the sprocket seal, (that I stupidly didn't change when I recently changed the GB sprocket) is the cause of my oil loss that cannot be accessed in situ.

Thanks GB memory still working ---result  but obviously not a suitable option in this case , by the way could you advise how much your charges for grinding/rebushing the layshaft, I've a complete box that I'm thinking of refurbing always used SRM for that job but always looking for options . That will be after I've sorted my other box out on the bike !!

My gearbox is ready to pick up! 
Richard Clamp said the layshaft and bush were shot as expected, plus he said the box had an incorrect selector shaft(?) it was for the swinging arm box which surprised me as I assumed the gearbox was all original. He also changed the mainshaft seal, clutch pushrod and its operating lever. I'm going over there tomorrow to pay him 200GBP  and thank him for doing it so speedily.
