Tanks Trev
And I take it steel first and last (obviously)
on my clutch the flange on inside of the cluth inner stops the first plate contacting the clutch basket, I take it that why steel first

Update on clutch
After all that I found the clutch centre was non to tight a fit on the adapter, I got a new non cush centre on the old Devils Swap Meet for less than half price and waited with baited breath until it arrived hoping it was the centre at fault and not the adapter, well I was due a bit of good luck and was satisfying to see I had to push quite hard to slide the new centre onto the adapter shaft.
