dodgy knees
« on: 20.11. 2016 13:37 »
As age is taking its toll on my knees and back so now owning my new toy, and that she will require a lot more attention than my modern bikes
I decided to treat myself to a bike lift to make those little maintenance tasks that bit easier.
although it will take all my bikes but it was bought with the Bezza in mind as she does sit so low to the ground.

 Nice set-up! *smile*

Beats a milk crate by a mile.

Really make sure the hold down strap is always tight and is a GOOD one. If not and the bike starts to go you are never in a position were you have leverage.

If the strap lets loose best case is the bike is damaged. Worse case is it lands on you and is damaged.

Thats a good point, I'm tempted to fit rear tie downs as well as the front ones just to be on the safe side

A friend lent me a lift for my bike rebuild and then later said I could keep it!  *smile*

I got mine about 10 years ago. I don't know how I worked on bikes in my shed for so long without one. I also added tie down loops (muffler U clamps) at the rear.
Cheers

Cheers for the link , must tidy the garage a bit then when I get back to work will order one. ( MRI scan on dodgy knee yesterday )
Am I correct in thinking that one of my bikes can live on it when its not in use ?

Due to lack of shed space my A10 lives on the hoist. When the hoist is up the arms are lockable so the hydraulics are not supporting the weight.

I got hydraulic lift table last year, and added front wheel chock to it, it's an over centre version with provision for lock, so bike both secure and stable.
Bike lives on it during winter layup, but still add handle bar straps for increased safety.
1960 Super Rocket, owned since 1966, back on the road 2012 after being laid up for 29yrs.

Like greybeard says there is a locking bar/ safety bar you can fit and you could then lower the lift to sit on that but
I wouldn't be comfortable leaving it up on the hydraulics for too long just in case. you never know!  ;)
