New BSA A10 Owner
« on: 20.10. 2016 20:10 »
Hello everybody,
I am back to BSA A10 ownership after a gap of 25 years. I sold my 1962 Super Rocket to finance the final part of the restoration of a 1936 Vauxhall DX14. About 10 years ago I did get back to ownership of a British motorcycle with a 1950 Royal Enfield J2, but with old age and dodgy knees I was struggling to start her. 2 years ago I changed her for a Sportster and the electric start gave me a new lease on motorcycling. I still love my Harley but a few weeks ago I decided to sell the Vauxhall and buy my dream bike and the smile is still fixed firmly on my face. I think I now have the best of both worlds and I am enjoying 2 wheels more than I have for years.

gt6uk (if that is, indeed, your real name!),

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the nice intro. *welcome* That is one very sweet looking motorcycle. Congratulations on the acquisition. Speaking of "two wheels", how are your own wheels doing? Did the dodgy knees get better allowing you to return to kick starting?

Hi Richard, thanks for the welcome. The knees will never be what they were but the A10 is much easier to kick off than a temperamental 500 single that likes to kick back if every thing is not set right.

Steve.

Hello gt6uk,
That's a great buy. I'm looking to buy an almost identical looking motorcycle myself. I currently own a 1961 Golden Flash and the upcoming buy is a genuine 1963  RGS. The only difference Is the front fork set up. See pics.
Regards,

Both machines give the impression, (to me) that the tank is going up hill. Must be the angle of the shot I guess.

That rear mudguard & tail light is dodgy.

Dodgy for both? The tail light assembly on mine seems to be slanting downwards from the mudguard to the licence plate. And gt6uk seems to be straight. Any insights will be much appreciated.

Hi rkhairajani,
The bike in your photo has Gold Star type rear mudguard stays, The RGS should have arrow head stays
The speedo/rev counter mounts are also more like Gold Star than RGS
The RGS frame is unique to the model, it has several different features to the A7 numbered frames
More close up photos of the bike would be needed to offer further opinions
These frames have been copied and faked by replica builders *sad2*

I would not contemplate buying an RGS without a dating letter /birth cert from the Gold Star owners or BSA clubs
Known history and old documentation is further provenance of an original bike

Thanks John,
Am attaching the video link for your kind consideration. The seller seems to be quite knowledgeable about his bikes and has mentioned that the bike was raced with a gold star engine in the 60's.
In one of the section of the video one can clearly see the kink (like in a gold star single).
Quote from the seller "leaving history of the frame, small section of bottom lower front widened standard tube used to fit the Goldstar single engine was kept during restoration process.  It can easily change back without engine removal if desired. "
So I really don't have a way of figuring out if this was indeed a frame changed for the race purpose of actually a good start frame to start with.
I intend to close the deal by month end if all looks ok. So please let me know.
