kickstart pinion /bush clearance
« on: 17.10. 2016 23:25 »
I've been having some difficulties with my kickstart lever crashing to the floor when I use it.  The pinion gear and ratchet both look good and I bought a new bushing from Klempf's, but when I put the pinion on there seems like a lot of wobble.  Does anyone know what the clearance between the gear and  the bush should be?  I tried to find an on line workshop manual but no luck.  Thanks

G'day Bill.
There were some dodgy pinions going around a while back and needed a bigger bush (I got one). I complained and a new larger bush was sent. It was a while back and I can't remember who the supplier was. If I had to make one I'd give it 1+ but no more than 2 thou".
Cheers

Hello Bill,

Pre 1954 and later gearboxes has different ratchets and bushes. The teeth profiles are different and early bush outer diameter is bigger than lateĀ“s. Check that You have the right bush. Most British and U.S. dealers do not know the difference but in the Continent they do:
