main stand

with many of us having age related problems has anyone thought of converting the main stand operation with a leaver system  the same as the 38 rudge ulster i could operate it with two fingers with no effort at all ??

I did a quick search but couldn't find a decent picture of that system (without the ex pipe in the way). It does look like a good idea.

hi guys, a bit bulky but could be made how would it look as opposed to an electric start system. Steve McFarlane needs to get working on one that fits belt drive before one of us works out the easy lever system... here is a couple on the rudge, cheers

 someone a while ago posted the idea of a wedge of timber or similar to run the rear wheel up onto (forwards) and when at the top drop the centre stand, and roll back and let gravity magic happen....It's a variation of what I've been doing for years with the Gutzzi to remove the wheel for tyre changes, but adapted it and it also works fine on the Plunger 10. Wedge is about 6-8" long/2"high, and easy enough to carry around if need be.
   A couple of layers of ~20mm formply or similar can do the same thing with a bit of thought..

Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

Hi guys, thought I would have a go at making an easy action lever for the main stand, so I wondered about a foot operated lever and what would you do with it after being used. My idea is a lever that can be stored where the tyre pump used to live. It is made of aluminium tube with a spring operated brass locating end fixed to the tube so it can operate freely but cannot fall out, so to store just operate it as you would a tyre pump, hope you like it, cheers

Good one Kiwi. If you made the welded on tab another 4" and bent it round where the pipe should be it would be just like a 60's BSA. (said with light heart on a Friday arvo)

Excellent Kiwi, good idea to store it in the pump pozzie. (But what stops the allie tube bending? -Must be good stuff).

hi guys, Jools some more pics to answer your question. Ali pipe is (25mm x 19mm x3mm x 310mm long). Metal insert pieces are (19mm x 1mm) and of various short lengths to suit. Insert at stand end is to protect the inside of the aluminium and reduce size, another insert to stop spring from going in to far, one short piece to secure the plunger against the spring.  Although the outside diameter of the metal inserts are 19mm and the inside of the aluminium  is 19mm, it is an interference fit needing a bit of heat to get them in which is a bonus in so far that no welding/drilling or gluing is required, cheers

Im in Masterton, just used your idea and it works great, the stand on my bike, and been fabricated out of steel so it was just a matter of welding a suitable  piece on the stand foot, with the right angle you can put the bike on the main stand, straight from the side stand,  very little effort. I had to use 16mm  round bar. 12mm just bent, so there is a bit of weight involved. I would say that anyone having problems putting these bikes on the main stand, this is the perfect solution. Control over the bike is better as well.
