I am going on the distinguished gentlemans ride 

I was looking at this only this morning. Before you can even veiw the rides you have to sign up and give them your card details for a donation or anticipated sum to raise through sponsors. At that point I gave up.

But I may persevere when I feel more confident that this isn't a scheme to make money for the organisers as well as raise money for testiculat cancer research/treatment.

Last year I supported the Air Ambulance charity with  £10 donation and a ride from Triumphs factory at Hinckley to Brackley Motorcycle festival.

 There is a "cruise night" like that near me. If they decide to raise $5,000 for a charity, the donation from each participant is equal. So, 50 entrants, $100.00 each. But you dont know in advance how many entrants, so you dont know how much.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. I signed up for the Chicago ride because it looks legit, sounds like fun and today is a significant day for me with respect to the cause. I will share this personal point, though it is sad. Last night we got a message from my wife's best friend that her husband (also our dear friend) just went on life support, suffering with cancer throughout his body that started from forsaking prostate exams. Today (or any day soon) may be his last on this earth. To lighter thoughts, I think it would be great if many forum members took part in the DGR in your local areas. We could then think of it as a virtual group ride.

Yes I rode the London version two years ago. Wore plus fours and my moleskin waistcoat for the event. And on my A10 too.

To prevent anyone trying to post 5 x 8 Meters large pictures that these days may come out of a phone or camera, there's a 1,5 MB max file size set. Simply resize before posting. Sadly, as we get older we have to suffer the loss of relatives, friends and beloved celebrities.

I hope to be going on our local ride. I lost a nephew (only 27) a few years ago to suicide.
 My club supports a local organization (Men4Life) for men dealing with depression. We raised $1500 for them at this years bike show.

It's a bad coincidence that I also lost a nephew (57) to suicide a few years ago. We blame CTE (that is, too many small concusions) due to mixed martial arts hobby.

Getting back to happier thoughts, if anyone should decide to sign up for DGR, please let the group know so we,can amuse ourselves with the kinda simultaneous stories. I tried to create a "BSA A7/A10 Forum" team for the ride, but it registered it under the Chicago ride only. (Crap! This is reminding me that I've dropped the ball a bit on sending out the t-shirt design. Apologies, I'll get on it.)

I've just had a look on Ebay at some leather leg gaiters; they'd look rather splendid with plus-four trousers and brown brogue shoes, along with a waistcoat or tweed jacket of some sort. I don't have a pisspot helmet like cyclobutch so my Jet style will have to do.

 I like the idea, but don't do well truckin' in packs (unless I'm at the front or off to the far left or maybe right flank)...
Last year I crossed paths with the pack  and then caught up with them at the destination (a buddy was playing music there) and had some bevvies, and then there was a massive thunderstorm that sent everyone packing.
  I don't mind giving out if it goes where it's intended, so if I can I'll work out a plan (the notso distinguished rider)

The London ride that I attended two years ago was very busy – but lots of interesting bikes there. Meeting point was just the South side of London Bridge. From there they released us in a series of fairly substantial gaggles. Route took us back over the bridge to the North side of the river and then heading West. Along the embankment, past Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. We crossed somewhere beyond Chelsea and the Battersea power station before heading back on the South Bank.

As a warning, this was quite a warm day and there was a lot of traffic and traffic lights - pretty much stop/go the whole way out. So if you are enjoying marginal cooling or a dragging clutch you could be in for a long day. Mind you, with traffic thinning out on the return I enjoyed a good if slightly surreal charge in the company of the loudest 400/4 I have ever heard and a young guy on a nice mist green Sunbeam S7D that he must have been substantially torturing to keep in the chase.
