First bike ride of the year
« on: 17.02. 2016 14:21 »
First bike ride of the year! Put the Yamaha SR500 on the trailer to get her down to pavement. There's about 6" of ice on the first half mile of road from my house, with deep ruts from the snowmelt runoff)  Slid off into the ditch and got seriously stuck. Got a neighbor and my chained up 4x4 pickup and couldn't get it out until the UPS driver came along and hooked his truck to the front of my pickup and pulled out Wrangler and trailer. Came home for dry clothes and tried again. Made it down to dry pavement, unloaded and rode down to Ben's Crow Inn and back (about 50 miles round trip). Was it worth it? Hell yeah!!!!!!

Well I suppose there are many aspects that determine the length of your riding season. Alongside youth and enthusiasm would be your geographic location, acquiescence to put your loved ones out on a potentially salted surface, as well as your riding gear. Most of my bikes are tucked away in the dry, all drained down and on SORN. This year I have continued to run my Guzzi V50 throughout, at least on an occasional basis. It has a finish that is challenged enough that a little more corrosion won’t hurt unduly, a decent sized screen plus extra hand guards, along with a 12V system that will support the all-important heated grips. And then bundling myself up fairly substantially, trips of reasonable length can still be enjoyed.

My longest is the monthly ride out to Sunbeam Club (actually SoF) which is about a 110 mile round trip of an evening. Around two and a half hours on the road for an hour or so in the pub talking part numbers.

What a fantastic day for a ride clear blue sky little or no wind a bit chilly but wrapped up well. The roads covered in horrible white stuff after gritting last night so the motorised versions stayed safe in the garage. My ride for the day had it 20 years gets left out in all weathers so a bit tatty but its goes OK. Only did 6 miles but just nice to be out in the fresh air on two wheels  *lol*

Ha - I have one like that. Takes me down to the station most weekday mornings. Called 'the clunker'.

Yay, yay and thrice yay! I've been out on my motorcycle for the first time since last November! The weather here is windy but not too cold, (currently 14°). The bike started straight away, (after a good tickle). Filled her up with new juice and she ran like a dream. Covered about 30 miles on back roads around Warwickshire. Loverly!

I stopped for a rest on the Burton Dassett Hills https://goo.gl/S5BhH5 and enjoyed the views!
