Get to know her for a while before any major work.

Muskrat,

Would you agree that pulling off the sump plate for a look-see before going off on many rides is a good idea?

Great looking bike. Welcome to the forum. Now, shouldn't you be out riding instead of sitting at a computer? *smile*

Yes Richard, along with a oil tank and line flush. I'd also drop the timing cover off and check the oil pump nuts are tight, check the end float and dynamo chain. Then warm her up and have a good listen.
Cheers

G'day Paddy.
The rear hub should be the same as the front. The headlight cowl should be the "cow pat or divers helmet" 67-5084.

G'day Paddy.
The rear hub should be the same as the front.
I also have a miss matched front and rear hub on the A7 and have wondered if I could source a rear alloy 'Ariel type' hub
If anyone has one available I would be interested in a deal - please message me - but then would the spindle and swinging arm be different and a problem in fitting ?

G'day Pete.
If your bike is a 61 it's the front hub that's wrong. Alloy hubs only 56-57.
The swingarm ia a little different for the alloy hubs. I have spare hub & s/arm but postage cost would be ridiculous.

Thanks for the info. I reckon the A7 is a mixed up old girl - 57 and 61 ! I had some issues a few years ago with our DVLA when the annual test procedure tightened up and frame/engine numbers were required. It transpired that the frame number registered had long gone, presumable someone smashed the bike before it came to me and switched frames.
I had the 'new' frame number verified by our UK BSA expert who came up with 57 as the year registered but I was very keen to keep the registration number for the 61 bike 777AWA and won my case so who knows what bits from what vintage ended up being my cherished A7 ?
Thanks for the offer of hub/swingarm which I would have gladly taken you up on but I'm sure you're right that the postage would be prohibitive.
