Thank you for the add, my name is Steve and very very new to the bsa world, I currently have in my mist a 1949 A10.
I have loads of questions and problems that need attention but I'll save them for another topic.

Welcome to the forum. You have a particularly pretty and, in my opinion, desirable early rigid framed bike.

A good rider periodically checks all nuts and bolts with a spanner to see that they are tight - Instruction Manual for BSA B series, p46, para 2.

 I'm no expert, but that timing case looks like Longstroke A7, as does the speedo-in-tank but hard to tell the shape, I'm fairly sure the speedo-in-tank was only one year, '46/7(which made me look harder art the casing)

 Notwithstanding looks good whatever *wink2*
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

duTch, I think your right. The bolt on manifold also points to longstroke A7.
Stretch, what is the engine # prefix, eg XA7, YA7, ZA7 ?

That bike is definitely a 500cc A7 longstroke and would be XA7 because speedo is in the tank. The YA7 1948 the speedo was on the forks.
1950-53 A10 rigid/plungers, 1958-61 A10 super rockets, 1947-50 A7 longstrokes, 1949 Star twin,
1951-54 A7 plungers, 1940s M21, WDM20s,
