Hi

anyone fitted a wassell carb thinking of putting one on my A10

not the answer to your question but i fitted a new 376 from burlen and it worked "out of the box" perfectly which I think is rare with most parts! I'm not sure if they cost more than wassel carbs it cost me a bit over 300nzd delivered, it took quite a few weeks to arrive tho!

I fittted a new Burlen/Amal Concentric last summer. I told them my jettings, slide cutaway etc etc, and the carb came the next day (£128 delivered) fitted it, bike started 3rd kick and after a very small adjustment of the air screw ran perfectly. 5,4000 miles so far without a problem.

Don't have any experience with Wassel carbs, I can only confirm what Metalflake and KiwiGF have written. I to installed an Amal ordered directly at Burlen fuels a year ago, and it's still performing faultlessly.
I preferred to buy at Burlen because they get you the latest version, with the stay up float and viton tip needle, as where you buy from a distributor, you risk receiving one that's been on the shelve for a couple of years.

It all depends of course how much you can/want to spend, as a Wassel is about 1/2 the price of an Amal, and I suppose a Wassel will do what it says on the tin, but my opinion is that, as usual, you get what you pay for......

Hi All,
I had trouble when I was sorting out a T140 and was supplied with "W " jets instead of Amal *problem* *problem* *angry* *angry*
Therefore I have  no faith in the product(s)

Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

For as far as I know, W don't make anything.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but nearly all of they're stuff is made in China or surrounding countries, and are cheap copies of something

.....on the other hand, aren't we all guilty? If nobody would buy the cheapo stuff, I suppose W wouldn't exist or either be selling top quality *smile*
My granddad was a farmer, and if he needed a new horse cart he went to the local blacksmith who made him one, and if anything broke it was the same blacksmith who repaired it, and if he sold him rubbish, he'd never sell another cart again, as the whole village would know what a crook he was...
And if my granddad couldn't afford it, he'd save up until he had enough. None of that fancy stuff going on the internet and searching for the cheapest cart even if it has to come from the moon or something what do we care.....

But don't let that hold you back Paul, after all it's your wallet ;)

Yep that's how it was Morris, our estate (was owned by CWS) had it's own Blacksmith everything he made had his stamp on it (an anvil - not too original I'll grant)
but now god knows where the nearest Blacksmith is and if you could  find one he'd be too busy making fake antique looking fireside companion sets to make you a cart, so we are stuck to some extent with far east tinsmiths and foundry's making small batches which may be the cause of differing quality (don't know really but suspect it could be so)

Hi

 I replaced the concentrics on my 1970 Firebird with Wassell concentrics which I bought from Burtons in UK.  With the Amals it was getting hard to start with the Wassell's starts 1st or 2nd kick I am satisfied with them, apparently the Amal jets fit them also.  The quality is good and the main thing the price is right.

 and they turned up wrapped in Wassell tape, but are very nice, good value and no detectable magnetism

the Wassll carb is a copy is a copy of an early concentric and the parts are supposed to be interchangeable but they are not, if you measure the throttle slide and the body there is about 4thou difference which means if you get them muddled up one will be very loose and the other will seize up also if you measure the jets (on the early ones) even thought they had the same no's on them the flow rate was different, they may have improved them a bit now but from what i have heard  here in the UK people are not that happy with them.

I put a Wassells carb on an A10 a while ago before I sold it and it went really well. My mate put a pair on an A65 and that ran fine but we had to change the jets which was not the fault of the carb, just fine tuning. The manufacturing quality seemed really good but, like others, I would not recommend mixing parts with genuine Amal, apart from the main jet.

That's interesting stuff and certainly a lot I did not know, but I am guessing you started reading through this topic without happening to notice the dates on the various posts. Yours is time-shifted 6-1/2 months from the one you responded to. *dunno* *smile*
